Bryan explained: “Dawn and I have faced hardship before with the Foot and Mouth Epidemic in 2000, and Bird Flu in 2017, but nothing like this. We struggled with our conscience but felt that there was no alternative but to ask for help.” Following the huge reaction to the appeal Bryan said: “We are completely overcome and humbled by this most generous response from all of those that have donated to the farm in our time of need. We have even had donations from around the world including a mobile farm based in Australia. We know that this is a very difficult and uncertain time for everyone. Celebrations were somewhat muted due to the Coronavirus lockdown but friends and family made contact through the various media sources. Both sons live away from the area, Martin near Chester and Neil in Norfolk. Jan and Eric met whilst he was serving in the Royal Engineers back in 1960 and they travelled the world to various postings as varied as the Persian Gulf , Kenya and Netherlands. Eric was awarded an MBE for mapping operations on the Kenya/Ethiopian border. ey moved to Dibden Purlieu in 1986 when Eric le the army. Both have been fairly active in the area since. Jan was a check out supervisor in the Holbury Co op and Eric worked in the DSS in Southampton. On nally retiring both became involved locally, Eric serving on the Hythe and Dibden Parish Council as Vice Chairman with Jan active in her support.
