YFM comprises of over 50 volunteers alongside 16 members of sta , and works to improve the wellbeing of children, young people and families in Totton. During the last year, YFM has supported more than 2,000 individuals through their programme of 1:1 support, groups, activities, courses and a food bank. It also runs the Chapel café and Treasure Box charity shop. The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service aims to recognise outstanding work by volunteer groups in their local communities. It was created in 2002 to celebrate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee. Winners are announced each year on 2nd June – the anniversary of the Queen’s Coronation. YFM is one of 230 charities, social enterprises and voluntary groups to receive the prestigious award this year. Ray Maher, Chair of the Trustees, comments: “We are immensely proud to receive The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. This is an amazing achievement for us and rightly recognises our fantastic volunteers who regularly give their time and skills to support our work. We would not be able to do what we do without them and we can’t say thank you enough. We are very much aware how critical our role is locally to the many children, young people and families who have nowhere else to turn, but to see our work get national recognition is a huge honour.” YFM will be presented the award by the Lord-Lieutenant for Hampshire, Nigel Atkinson Esq, later this summer. Furthermore, two volunteers from YFMwill attend a garden party at Buckingham Palace in May 2021, along with other recipients of this year’s Award.
