Fleur Fisher, Deputy Head at Marchwood CofE Infant School said: “The children loved being a part of this project, it’s important that they feel a sense of community and shared understanding of the different challenges that we all face. Many of our pupils have grandparents that they are unable to see at the moment, and this seemed a way of making connections and building some bridges between generations in a positive way”. Nicola Ray, Registered Manager, at Oaklands Rest Home, Marchwood, said: “Here at Oaklands, we’ve always felt a real connection between the different generations. Prior to the pandemic, our residents would look forward to their Waterside Pupils Bring Comfort & Joy! art sessions with a local nursery and engaging with the children. The age gap would just melt away and it was wonderful to watch. Unfortunately, we have been unable to continue our visits, so being involved in such a lovely project has really touched all our hearts and put a smile on our faces. The residents are absolutely thrilled!” Tariq Sasso, Principal at Black eld Primary School says: " The School Pupil Leadership Team raised the issue about wanting to support the local community, especially the elderly in care homes over the Christmas period. When we were contacted by Heidi, I thought that it was the perfect opportunity. At Blackfield we regularly discuss our INSPIRE values of ‘Innovation, Nurture, Success, Passion, Integrity, Responsibility and Excellence’, and this project highlights the responsibility we have as a community to support each other through difficult times. The children really are beacons of light and our local area really is in good hands with the strong moral values our children have. I am incredibly proud of them”. Heidi Rehman comments : “We are so lucky to be living in a digital age which helps so many feel closer to their loved ones; however, for many people access to the internet isn’t always that simple. We wanted to bring a smile to some of the residents’ faces in our community, and receiving something so personal, positive and uplifting seemed a lovely way to bring different ages together and make them Continued from front page feel connected”.
