After nearly nine months of inactivity owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, Hythe Scene made a welcome return to service on 20th August. e Hythe Ferry service was suspended following the imposition of lockdown restrictions just before last Christmas and following a consequential catastrophic collapse in passenger numbers, owners Blue Funnel Ferries announced it had run out of money and could not see a way of restarting. Not only were there no funds for the restart but Hythe Scene needed its expensive annual inspection and re t. Local resident Ashleigh Mutimear rallied the community with her Crowdfunder appeal which along with council funding raised the £60,000 needed. Hythe Scene was able to be re tted and subsequently passed her inspection. e work carried out was extensive and she is now in the best shape. With passenger numbers surging, things are certainly looking good for the immediate future but much will depend on maintaining these gures once the tourist season closes and winter draws in. e return of capacity crowds to St Mary’s Stadium for Saints matches will be a great help as there is a healthy support from this side of the water but commuters and shoppers will need to do their bit. It’s been a tough year for our centuries old ferry, it can only be hoped the travelling public will continue to support it. Honeypot Children’s Charity have resumed their Residential Respite Breaks for young carers aged 5-12 and to celebrate, Roxi Drive and Glen Jevon are releasing a charity single to support their work. On the 4th of August, Honeypot House (near Exbury) reopened its doors to welcome back groups of young carers that they support. e children were able to take a well-deserved rest, away from their usual caring responsibilities, and enjoy a three-day break with other children with a shared experience. During their stay in the New Forest, the children have bounced on trampolines, played on the swings, splashed in the pool, skateboarded, been to the beach, visited Paultons Park & New Forest Wildlife Park, laughed (a lot), slept (a bit!), eaten yummy food and generally had lots of fun. Honeypot is all about building brighter futures for young carers and creating happy childhood memories. Over the last 17 months, Honeypot has supported these children with online activities, but nothing replaces interacting face-to-face and spending time away from their responsible caring roles. Honeypot sta have seen that many of the children have struggled emotionally and su ered from severe isolation during the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns. ey have found that time away from school, shielding their vulnerable family members, has impacted hugely on their con dence and ability to engage with friends and adults. 80s Retro Synth-pop artist Roxi Drive along with local musician Glen Jevon, are releasing a charity single cover of “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” by Starship to help support the 427 Honeypot young carers that live across Hampshire. And “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” is how everyone at Honeypot feels about supporting these amazing children with Honeypot’s Wrap-Round services. e single (digital and CD) is available to purchase/download on www. roxidrive.bandcamp.com and there’s a special bonus track on the CD version too! All pro ts from the single sales will be donated to Honeypot. You can nd further information about the Honeypot Children’s Charity on their website www.honeypot.org.uk
