As in previous years, Hythe and Waterside Rotary took part in the Rotary Wessex Christmas Shoebox 2021 appeal, collecting local donations of shoeboxes packed with suitable gi s, and delivering them to the regional depot at Hurn. It is with great delight that they can now report that the rst two articulated trucks and trailers full of shoeboxes destined for Rotary Club Chisinau in Moldova and Rotary Club Teka Tigu Mures in Romania, were loaded up and arrived in their destination countries early December. It was a fantastic collection, totalling over 18,300 boxes of gi s altogether plus 36 cartons full of knitted clothes, toys and blankets as well as some summer clothes made by groups of ladies supporting the project from various sewing clubs. is incredible e ort will make a very large number of children in orphanages, special schools, refugee camps and disadvantaged families feel a lot happier at this time of year. is is an incredible operation, especially when you consider that the COVID-19 pandemic is still with us. Over 45 clubs across the district with the support of their communities helped contribute to this wonderful collection. Several clubs and individual Rotary members contributed their time and physical e ort to help make the collection and loading operations run as smoothly as they did. Nominations Now Open for Those who go Above and Beyond in your Community for public servants, individuals, volunteers, charities and community organisations to submit their nominations to the High Sheriff Community Awards 2021-2022, to celebrate the good work of those making Hampshire a safer place to live.
