Bob’s passion for DofE was sparked when he joined Hardley School Youth Club back in 1973 and has since gone on to run the DofE in Hampshire as an expedition and assessor for a staggering 48 years, enabling young people to take on challenges, discover new skills and passions and develop their con dence, resilience and self-belief. Bob is one of a small group of volunteers to receive a personal letter of commendation from HRH The that it is impossible to name all the individuals who have supported me in organising expeditions and managing the DofE; all of whom have made my time enjoyable. By far the greatest number to thank are the young people who bring joy in varying amounts whilst out on the hills.” e challenge of DofE broadens horizons, raises aspirations, and gives courage for the future. e DofE’s CEO Ruth Marvel said: “If young people are the heart of our organisation, volunteers are the lungs, breathing life into our programmes, changing the lives of young people so that they have the confidence and resilience to deal with whatever life might have in store. At a time when so many young people are facing unprecedented challenges, DofE volunteers are instrumental in helping them to regain a sense of purpose, possibility and control over their futures. Thank you to everyone in the DofE volunteer family who has helped support so many young people through the most difficult of times.” For more information about The Duke of Edinburgh Award visit: www.dofe.org Holbury Volunteer Receives Royal Recognition achievements of young people undertaking the DofE. For the end of the final day of a Gold qualifying expedition in the Cevennes, an additional needs team of 7, including two with mobility challenges, chose the ascent of Mont Loziere. The final push to the top was considered to be too steep for the young woman with MS who was given the option by the trailing supervisors, of a contour path to the finish. Sat at the top of Mont Loziere, I waited and watched the team appear and start the climb. It was emotional to see, after a small gap, the 7th team member appear too. No easy option taken. What an achievement for them all.” Bob can’t express how grateful he is to everyone that has supported him, saying: “So many people make up the DofE family Gold Award Presentation in 2008 at St James’s Palace where Bob met HRH Prince Philip Earl of Wessex – a DofE Trustee – and a special commemorative coin marking the life and legacy of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, the DofE’s patron. Bob, who has also run the Calshot Youth Ski Club since 1978, said: “ There is one highlight for me that encompasses the extraordinary Bob assessing in Nepal on one of his many expeditions Your Donations Made It!
