Page 64 • The HERALD • 14th July 2022 v THE HERALD - Proud to be part of your communityv Waterside Clothes Swap e rst Waterside Clothes Swap took place recently at Youth Club in Hythe. Set up by Natalie Haigh and Lucie Mann the duo hope to reimagine how we as a community think about clothing. Clothing is something we all must have regardless of age, gender or income. Some of us need speci c clothing (sport, work, hobbies etc) some of us have grown out or shrunk out of good quality clothing so it’s no use to us but could be re-loved by someone else. e principles of the Waterside Clothes Swap events are: • FREE to enter • You do NOT need to bring items to join in • NO minimum donation for items swapped • Anything le over will be fairly distributed to local community and charity groups including charity shops. ey are keen to keep it in the community and send ZERO to land ll! • Each event will support a local charity or community project. ey are hoping to run events regularly throughout the year in line with when people change their wardrobes with the seasons. eir launch event on 29th May was well attended with around 50 people going and supported by 15 volunteers. Some people went early to drop o clothing and stayed to help. e event was kindly sponsored by the Waterside Women group and the event raised £105 for Waterside Food Project. A er the event ve local charity shops each received a bag of donations. Natalie comments: “All feedback from participants was that the event was fun, friendly and had a lovely warm supportive community feel to it. Many are excited to come back to our summer session. We are lucky to have an amazing community. Thank you for supporting this new event!” e next Waterside Clothes Swap is taking place on: Sunday 7th August, 1pm-3pm at Hythe Sea Scouts Hall on Shore Road. Lucie and Natalie are looking for volunteers to help them on the day with sorting items, helping participants’ and making refreshments.
