Each member was given a question sheet and within a short space of time the room was deadly silent except for an occasional murmur. A er the answers were read out and the prizes presented for the highest scores, members said they had all enjoyed it even though it had been a brain teaser. On the night a new member joined and a new guest was welcomed. The Southampton and New Forest Group of the Austin A30/A35 Owners’ Club are continuing to invite potential new members that are owners of any make of classic car, not forgetting those enthusiasts who appreciate them but don’t have one of their own, to go and meet the club members with a view to joining. Members enjoy a friendly, social atmosphere at the monthly meetings. Every meeting includes a ra e. ere are lm nights, quizzes, speakers on various topics and club drive days. Some members have other makes of classic vehicles such as Ford, Land Rover, Mercedes, M.G., Morris, Riley, Triumph and Volkswagen enabling the club to expand the range of vehicle manufacturers to complement their Austin A30/35 models. Featured in the photograph is a member’s Series 1 Land Rover, rst registered on the 10th March 1950. It was purchased in 1981 for £275, ran for a year, failed its M.O.T. and was le at the bottom of the garden. It was dismantled in 1988 and le in bits ready for re-building. March 2020 came and the rst lockdown took place. A member’s wife suggested that they used the time to start the process of bringing the Land Rover back to life. ey both worked on the project, the wife became chief painter giving the chassis and panels three coats. e work to make the vehicle roadworthy was completed in March 2022. It has covered approximately 400 miles with an eventful running in period. It is a ectionately named as ‘BITSA’ and the couple are now reaping the reward of all their hard work and are enjoying driving it. Charity News On Saturday 25th June club representatives met at the Honeypot Children’s Charity (reg. no. 1011672) headquarters in the New Forest to present a cheque for £600 raised from the club’s charity auction and other fund raising events. e club is in the unique position of owning Austin Motor Spares Service Ltd, which holds a range of highly valued stock. New, used and reconditioned parts are sold by Robert and Rick Prinn who are able to o er comprehensive advice and help. The next scheduled meeting is on 14th July and will be a BBQ. Meetings take place on the second ursday of each month, starting 7.30pm, at Netley Marsh Community Hall, Woodlands Rd, SO40 7GH. Do go along and meet them.
