In practising for the upcoming league games they then faced Romsey for another friendly match in October and whilst they scored 4 tries they narrowly lost 24-22. Feeling prepared for their rst league game, the young men travelled to US Portsmouth and played an outstanding game of rugby, beating the home team 30 points to 19. As watchers of the England women’s rugby team will empathise, their intrepid U16’s then su ered an agonising defeat by just one point in their next league game at home to Eastleigh. e last league game on 4th December was hotly anticipated and the team and their loyal band of supporters travelled to Andover for the nal league clash. Fawley hit the ground running, and a er quickly gaining the upper hand in both the scrum and breakdown, the inevitable rst try came a er some excellent handling from the backs delivered the ball for Aidan Cross to go over. Max Belson stepped up and slotted the rst of his 8 conversions for the day. Following the restart, Fawley piled on the pressure again, and it soon led to a second try - Dylan Lucas leaving would be tacklers in his wake as he crossed the whitewash. A second try for the ever-reliable Aidan Cross was followed by a superb solo e ort from Max Belson, who ran the length of the pitch and danced around several defenders to score under the posts. Before the half time whistle was blown, Fawley demonstrated some excellent defensive work. Despite being camped 5m from try line, Andover runners were repelled time and time again, as Fawley refused to give up their clean sheet. A er the break, normal service was resumed. e tries from Fawley continued to add up, and the opposition struggled to get any sort of a foothold in the game. A second half hat-trick of tries from Wyatt Davies, one of which was the result of a fantastic o oad from Aidan Cross paired with a wonderful support angle by Wyatt, and further scores from Max (who nished the game with an impressive 26 points) and Oliver Greenwood put the game to bed. Whilst the scoreline was pleasing to the Waterside Warriors, the manner in which it was achieved was the most satisfying aspect. e discipline and rugby intelligence the lads showed was impressive. ere is always more to learn but the coaches were very pleased with the 0-61 win and resulting placing of second in the division.  e U16’s now look forward to their cup games and friendlies in 2023 and would love to hear from new players in school year 11 who would like to join. As with all age groups, from years R-11 all training is given by quali ed coaches and all safeguarding and rst aid provision is in place. With the new Clubhouse at Gang Warily starting to take shape, the future is bright for this local club. As always, if you are interested in rugby, playing for ages 4-99+ is available as well as a whole host of support roles, from building experience in the clubhouse to cooking up bacon sandwiches on Sunday mornings. All queries, potentials sponsors and players are invited to email: enquiries@fawleyrfc. co.uk for more information on any aspect of Fawley RFC. 22nd November the DOGS played a 9 Hole Stableford Competition on the Dibden 9 hole course, where 40 plus ‘brave’ golfers took to the course in wintery conditions.
