Despite the relentless rain, all the players turned up in force to try and win the Paul Brogan Memorial Trophy along with team challenges, par three challenge and 8 other competitions. Before the day the total raised from golf days alone was £68,500 and £104,500 combining other events. anks to loyal players and sponsors the total raised on the day was £10,800 making a total of £115,300 in 11 years. Michael and Donna comment: “Thank you so much for all the efforts of every single player who not only took part but contributed with buying raffle tickets and auction prizes. Every year you amaze us with your spirit and generosity. Of course, our loyal local business sponsors, who most have been with us from the beginning, who donated auction prizes which really does help increase the money we can raise, those who donated raffle prizes and all our wonderful volunteers on the day.” 108 golfers took part in this year’s event including Saints legends Matt Le Tissier, Nicky Banger and Jason Dodd, all attempting to be crowned champion golfer and win the prestigious Paul Brogan Memorial Trophy. Paul Brogan was a local man who sadly lost his life to cancer in 2012, as a friend and keen golfer, Michael and Donna asked his family if the main trophy could be named in his memory. e 18 hole golf tournament started with bacon rolls in the club house with gradual registration throughout the morning with Donna Osman and Louisa Daniels. Players then according to their tee o time either conducted by comperes Marc Daniels and Tony Hobbs and the Trophy presentation conducted by Michael Osman. What an atmosphere!  e room was lled with so much energy all wanting the same outcome which they all achieved together. e handicap Secretary Marc Daniels worked hard verifying and recording the scores from the day until the presentation, the winner of the 11th SO45 Charity Golf Day winning the Paul Brogan Memorial Trophy was Josh Mcphee. Josh was presented with the Paul Brogan Memorial Trophy by Paul Brogan’s Dad, Chris Brogan. e following Prize winners were: 2nd: Ian Brombley, 3rd: Scott Nicholas. As players finished completely drenched, they were greeted back at the clubhouse with a BBQ. At around 6pm the Chris Brogan presenting winner Josh Mcphee with the Paul Brogan Memorial Trophy pr e s en t a t i on began with a speeches from founder M i c h a e l O s m a n and Maureen Robb from e Waterside Cancer Centre. e fun and games then began with a game of head ‘n’ tails, ra e, a u c t i o n Continued on page 11
