ANIMAL MAGIC Can You Help To Knit Some Woolly Angels? Every year St John’s Church in Hythe like to inform the local community of their church service times in the most angelic of ways. At the beginning of December the church give away little hand cra ed angel keepsakes along with their Christmas service times attached. Last year the church gave away 1,000 angels and is hoping to top that number this year. e ‘Angel Lady’ Sue Blomley is asking for anyone who enjoys knitting, crocheting or sewing to get involved to help them to exceed last year’s total. If you are able to help you can pick up a pattern from e Herald O ce. So you are expecting a new baby, congratulations! Whether you’re a list maker or a y-by-the-seat-ofyour-pants kind of person, preparing your dog as early as possible will take a lot of pressure o you both when your baby arrives. e day you bring your baby home is not the time to start getting your dog used to all the changes. As a mum of two and someone who is a list maker and planner, I can tell you that however well-prepared you are, nding time to have a wash is challenging enough, you won’t have the energy to start teaching your dog to settle! First Trimester – Start Planning! • What does your dog nd di cult now? • How will your dog’s routine change? • Where are your dog and baby going to sleep? • How much exercise are they used to getting? • Will you need to change their food? Second Trimester – House and Routine Preparation and Training • Install baby gates, you may need a few PREPARING YOUR DOG FOR A NEW BABY by Rachel Clark, Little Rascals Dog Coaching • Walk at di erent times, get them used to waiting • Teach a mat settle for feeding times and health visitors. • Less running, more sni ng and brain games • If you’re going to change their food, do it now Third Trimester – Exercise and Baby Stuff • Plan your walks, are they pram friendly? • Get them used to all the stu , walk with a pram, carry a doll • Desensitise to baby noises, play at a very low volume to start with • Replace some walks with enrichment and scent games • Have a plan B for your dog in case of early labour/ complications Welcome home! – Introductions and settling in • Introduce scent rst with a muslin or babygrow • Greet your dog rst before introducing baby • Let your dog approach in their own time, don’t rush • Don’t make them pose for photos, give them time to adjust • Watch body language for signs of stress Need some help? Introducing the start of ‘New Milton Fillies’ Ladies Rugby Team - New Milton RFC In an electrifying development, New Milton RFC (NMRFC) welcomes a ground-breaking addition to its club, a formidable NEW ladies rugby team. Dubbed ‘ e New Milton Filles’ in keeping with its Hampshire and New Forest roots, this pioneering squad has been formed with the aim of promoting female sports locally, and also creating a platform for the ‘Girls Youth Section’ of the club to transition into senior level rugby. e driving force behind this initiative is Nina McAllister (nee Westaway), an ex-player of Sutton & Epsom RFC Ladies team when it was set up over 20 years ago. Also, a rugby enthusiast who has seen an opportunity to create a platform for female athletes to thrive. “We want to provide women with the chance to showcase and nurture their passion for rugby. Our mission is to encourage more females to take up the sport and compete competitively whilst keeping an inclusive feeling and having a lot of fun.” e New Milton Fillies are not only focused on their sporting endeavours but also dedicated to giving back to the community. e NMRFC Ladies Touch Rugby Team, ‘ e Mother Ruckers’ have been playing for 5 years and are part of a competitive but fun Hampshire League, they are also part of ‘ e Great 8’s’ Charity supporting suicide awareness and local causes. e Ladies contact team will become part of this whole squad, training together on a Monday evening, attending social events and supporting all senior and youth teams across the whole club. With grit, determination, and a vision for a more inclusive sporting future, the ‘New Milton Fillies’ gallop forward, hoping to make an indelible mark on the rugby world. As this newly formed group emerges, one thing is certain - their female rugby team will be a powerhouse in the making, ready to embrace victory, on and o the eld.
