I must have been here at least ten years And never had a bite. Now I really am fed up. I’m not staying here anymore, ey think I’ve got no feelings, I’m totally ignored. Besides there’s somebody next door, I’d really like to get to know her, But I’m in such a mess Where they bashed me with the mower. Tonight I’m going to do a runner, First I’ll nip into the shed To do a quick touch up job, And scrape the bird muck of me head. I mustn’t loose me nerve Now I’ve reached the dividing wall, And whisper “Hello darlin, Shall we have a ball?” I hear a little giggle And a positive reply. I bet you didn’t know at happy Gnomes can y. I landed right beside her. She gives me a knowing nod, And says with a saucy smile, “I really like your rod”. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE! by Dorothy Lockyer© I have a brain, I don’t need anymore I used to use it for each thought and chore. But ‘AI’ has taken its place you see My grey matter has taken redundancy! Alexa can answer each concern But should she fail, then to Siri I turn I don’t need a map to show me the way Just follow the Sat Nav on my phone each day. My purse is empty of coins and notes No need for wallet, I don’t have a groat! Just flash a card at the machine near by The money leaves the bank in the blink of an eye! ‘AI’ has taken away my intuitiveness The ability to think is now under duress. My brain, that has served so well o’re the years Now a redundant organ, shrinking one fears. Psychedelic Trike by Lee Owers© My daughter in law is a lot of fun. Getting on her psychedelic trike, out for a run, Going down to Tesco for to get a shop, cycling up that hill, please don’t stop! Pink seat, pink handlebars She outshines all of the stars. You can’t miss her late at night, Cycling round the village on her psychedelic trike. 17th August 2023 The last days of summer Are almost upon us Spring now a memory Faded away Autumn is gathering Greens turning golden To yellows and russets As we begin each new day We all adore summer Sunshine and flowers Blossoms in springtime Crops in the fields Our gardens delight us Hours in the sunshine Things ever changing As summer unfurls Suddenly bareness Appears all around us Autumnal magic Fading away Carpets of crispness Line every pathway Red holly berries Begin each new day Winter approaches Storms with a vengeance Gales off the ocean Raging inland Christmas draws closer New celebrations Birth of a baby God amongst man We tolerate snowstorms And temperatures zero Hurricanes floods Whatever life brings Always we long for The first rays of sunshine And snowdrops appearing Heralding spring Life becomes lighter Daffodils blooming Carpets of bluebells Brighten our days The seasons move forward Shaping and blending All our tomorrows Shaped by today All Our Tomorrows by David K Wilson© Send your poems into The Herald, 2 High Street, Hythe, Southampton SO45 6AH The copyright of all poems that are published in The Herald belong to the author and should NOT be reproduced without their permission LIVE FOR THE DAY by Isobel Smith© Live for the day, Or so we are told; Live for the day We may never grow old.
