Every meeting includes a ra e with many members leaving with a prize or two. e club holds many events throughout the year with speakers on various topics, picnics, quizzes, car meets, club drive days and an annual charity auction. So why not drop in for a taster visit, a tea or coffee and share any of you classic car experiences with members? You will receive a warm welcome. Club News On ursday 14th September, one of the club’s members gave a talk to the group about his passion for collecting radios dating from the 1920s to the 1960s. His interest in radios started while he was at school. A fascination with how things worked sparked his interest in electronic developments. On leaving school he was o ered an apprenticeship with a local television and repair shop near his home. He brought examples from each decade to illustrate the changes in design and technology development of the radio. His collection totals over 500 models of radio production history. e talk was interesting and CLASSIC CAR CLUB – ‘Enjoy Radio Talk Night’ A Transistor Radio Late 1960’s 1920’s Crystal Set with its Amplifer (earliest in collection) informative as members have all enjoyed a variety of radio programmes throughout their lives. e club are always happy to welcome new members that are owners of any make of classic car, not forgetting those enthusiasts who appreciate them but don’t have one of their own, to go and meet the club members with a view to joining. Members have a range of classic vehicles such as Bedford, Ford, Land Rover, Mercedes, M.G., Morris, Riley, Saab, Triumph and Volkswagen enabling the club to expand the membership. The next meeting is the Club AGM on 12th October. Meetings take place on the second Thursday of each month, starting at 7.30pm, at Netley Marsh Community Hall, Woodlands Rd, SO40 7GH. Do go along and meet them. ‘LIFE’S TOO SHORT – PUT SOME MILES ON IT’ Transport Torques Lectures Power Up at National Motor Museum Specialist evening lectures by leading gures in the motoring world are scheduled this autumn at the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu. e talks, in the museum’s Collections Centre theatre o er a chance to hear interesting insights from experts and authors, and an opportunity to meet fellow enthusiasts. e programme includes: 70 Years of Genevieve with Andrew Roberts, 7th October, 7pm; e Legend of Goldie Gardner with John Mayhead, 4th November, 7pm; at’s Shell – at Was! Shell Film Screening, 18th November, 7pm and Fully Charged with Robert Llewellyn, 2nd December, 7pm Tickets are limited and cost £10 (discounted to £7.50 for Friends of National Motor Museum members). Genevieve and the other car from the iconic movie, Spyker, will be on display in the museum over the summer, and Genevieve will be in the Collections Centre for the evening for the Transport Torque. In 1930 he was hired by Cecil Kimber, the managing director of MG Cars, to team up with the marque to which he would remain loyal. John Mayhead has written a biography of the Goldie Gardner, which was published by National Motor Museum Publishing in September.
