JON’S BIKE REPAIR & SALES Unit 19, Glenmore Business Park, Hardley Industrial Estate, Lime Kiln Lane, Holbury SO45 2AR 023 8089 0712 EST: 2016 Fawley RFC have been sharing facilities since 1935 but on Saturday 2nd September they celebrated the opening of their very own clubhouse. e building of the new clubhouse was led by long-serving Fawley RFC club member Paul Bisgrove. e a ernoon of celebrations was kicked o with a showcase of rugby from Fawley RFC’s age grade sides; girls and boys, ages 6 to 16 years, Colts, Walking and Womens’ rugby. e clubhouse was o cially opened with Hampshire RFU President Dr Ed Neville in attendance as Fawley Parish Councillor Alan Alvey cut the ribbon. Jamie Burton from NFDC and Jill Tomlin from Dibden Allotments Fund, who were both instrumental in obtaining signi cant grants for the club, also joined the celebrations. Following the cutting of the ribbon, Fawley RFC 1st team took on the 17 Port and Maritime Regiment, Marchwood Dolphins, a game that epitomized the family spirit of rugby. Veteran and Club Stalwart Gareth Friend played with and against his son, swapping between a Fawley and a Dolphins shirt, and former Fawley Colts teammates played with and against each other. A special part of a Dolphins match is the shared hymn led by the Fijian teammates a er the match. Songs are a strong part of Fijian culture and the traditional way of thanking and paying respect in sports. It’s not o en you’d describe rugby songs as beautiful, but spectators unanimously agreed this was. It marries with the rugby values of TRED (Teamwork, Respect, E ort, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship). Check out the Fawley RFC Facebook page to see the video. Recognition of club members past and present were interwoven into celebrations. Christine English unveiled a plaque for her late husband Declan. Declan English was a Life Vice President of Fawley RFC and it was he who started the now thriving junior section. He passed away in May 2022 a er a year-long battle with cancer. Also was the o cial opening of the Billy Do Bar by the daughters of Bill Davies, a er whom it was named. Bill held several positions within the club culminating in Life President and passed away earlier this year. e Wayne Morris Trophy, specially commissioned by 17 Port and Maritime Regiment to thank Wayne Morris for his service to both clubs was presented to Fawley RFC’s Man of the Match, Ed Uglow. It was constructed with timber from the Mulberry Harbour which was decommissioned. Wayne’s immense contribution to both clubs spans decades; as a player, a coach and now Director of Rugby. e building could not have been completed had it not been for the generous support of local businesses, in particular PC Building Supplies, Gracelands, Trant Engineering and Holbury Tool Hire. Music duo ‘Into the Dawn’ provided live music for the after-match celebrations that ran on into the evening. Fawley RFC gives their grateful thanks to all of those who made all of this possible, helping to secure the future of rugby in the Waterside area. Fawley Clubhouse Grand Opening On Tuesday 22nd August a team from Bramshott Hill Golf Club entered the New Forest Seniors Rally. is is an annual event organised by the New Forest Golf Club at their forest golf course. e Bramshott team of Ray Dunkason, Paul Wastel, Stuart Bulbrooke and Henry Porter won the competition with a score of 132 points. e victory secured them the Gales Trophy for the second year running. Team member Henry Porter won best individual score with a magni cent 41 points. Fawley RFC Celebrates Opening of Their Very Own Clubhouse! Bramshott Hill Seniors Results intrepid people and it was agreed to go ahead even though the rain was falling heavily. A er nine holes with every piece of equipment soaked including the players and the greens beginning to ood, both captains agreed to end the match with scores counting over just nine holes. A very welcome meal was served in the clubhouse with the normal speeches, jokes (they need some work in this area) and banter, the results were announced. Bramshott Hill were once again the winners, winning four and a half games to one and a half. A very soggy Bramshott team made their way home again in good spirits. e next day was spent trying to dry out all of their equipment for the next challenge. On Monday 4th September forty-one Senior players at Bramshott Hill Golf club gathered to contest the Gerald Lettice Memorial trophy and the Brambles Cup. e Gerald Lettice trophy is contested by players with handicaps greater than twenty-four and the Brambles Cup contested by players with handicaps below twenty-four. e weather was nearly perfect for golf with the sun shining and very light winds. A close match was anticipated by all. e Brambles Cup was won by Ray Dunkason with a score of 40 points. Ray narrowly beat both Paul Wastell and Brian Lewis who also returned scores of 40 points but Ray was declared the winner a er countback. e Gerald Lettice trophy was won by Brett Par who also returned a superb score of 40 points. ese trophies will be presented later in the year at the Christmas meal. On Wednesday 6th September twelve Senior Bramshott Hill players attended Wellow Golf Club for an away match versus Wellow seniors. Only six days previous to this game, one on the Isle of Wight had to be cut short due to torrential rain, in contrast on this day the sun was shining and the hottest day of the year was predicted. e course was in ne condition and again a close competition was anticipated. With sun cream applied, water bottles lled and sun hats and umbrellas in evidence the match began. It was extremely hot, Wellow Golf club provided iced water at the completion of the ninth hole and this was gratefully received. When all games were completed the results were in and Bramshott Hill had once again triumphed winning four games and halving two making it a ve games to one win. A very excellent meal was enjoyed in the clubhouse a er the game and the majority of Bramshott players agreed that it was the best meal they have enjoyed this season. Well done the catering sta at Wellow. A er the normal speeches and jokes they made their way home hot and tired. Bramshott team v Wellow away New Forest Rally winning team Wednesday 23rd August saw a team of Bramshott Hill Seniors travel to Andover Golf Club for an inter club match. e day was clear and sunny and all players were anticipating a good day. A er eighteen holes over an undulating course the result was announced with Bramshott holding the Andover team to a draw. An excellent meal followed, with the usual banter and good spirits before the Bramshott Seniors made their way home. Bramshott Seniors Team v Andover Friday 25th August saw a team from East Horton visit Dibden Golf Course for an inter club match versus Bramshott Seniors. Again, the weather was good and a close game was expected. All players were in good spirits and looking forward to the challenge. A er eighteen holes the results were in and Bramshott Seniors were triumphant winning four and a half games to one and a half. Again, a meal followed with the normal good spirits and exchange of stories. Thursday 31st August saw twelve Bramshott Seniors prepare for their only overseas match of the year. Bags packed, vaccinations checked and passports in hand they gathered at Dibden golf centre at 0700 to load the cars for the journey to Southampton Port. ey boarded the ship and set sail for the Isle of Wight for a match versus Ryde Golf Club Seniors. e weather forecast was poor with heavy rain predicted for the whole day. On arrival at Ryde golf club discussions took place as to whether they should abandon the match. However Senior golfers are Bramshott Seniors Team v East Horton
