Watchkeepers provide the eyes and ears along the coast, monitoring radio channels and providing a listening watch in poor visibility. ey are trained to deal with emergencies o ering a variety of skills and experience. e new lookout station is situated a short distance to the east of the original station. NCI Stone Point is a satellite station of NCI Calshot Tower; views from the lookout extend from Lepe Spit and the central Solent round to the western Solent and the entrance to the Beaulieu River. Hampshire County Councillor for the South Waterside, Alexis McEvoy, was asked to o cially open the new Councillor Alexis McEvoy and NCI staff and volunteers at the official opening of NCI Stone Point lookout station. Speaking at the opening Alexis said: “I’m delighted to be here at NCI Stone Point to open their new lookout station. This fabulous position in Lepe Country Park is perfect for the watchkeepers to provide Eyes Along the Coast. However, we couldn’t have got here today without the considerable support of so many people. I would like to thank the following organisations for their generosity: The Baltic Exchange, Beaulieu Beaufort Trust, Dibden Allotments, Msc Containers, One Containers, Williams Shipping, John Lewis, Trinity House, Blue Bubble Lettings and Fawley Express. I too have been very supportive of the new station which has taken 4 years to come to fruition, but finally we are here. Most importantly, this unit couldn’t be operational without its many wonderful volunteers, too many to mention but I would like to give special thanks to the current Station Manager, Brian Young and the previous Station Manager Di Roblett.” For more information about NCI Stone Point please visit: www.nci.org.uk/stations/stone-point-lepe-park Go along to Hythe Sea Scouts hall on Shore Road in Hythe, SO45 6DR on Friday 1st December from 7pm to 9pm for a Christmas Shopping Evening.
