Brockenhurst Charity Shop started o in Brockenhurst Village Hall on Highwood Road, selling preloved good quality clothes, toys, shoes and brica-brac, raising funds for the Brockenhurst Village Trust. Brockenhurst Village Trust was founded in 2000 as a community charity providing facilities for the bene t of the people of Brockenhurst. e Trust’s Cutting the ribbon Inside the new shop main responsibility is managing the Highwood Road Site, home to the Village Hall, Scout Hall, Children’s Playpark and Multi Use Games Area (MUGA). A team of volunteers worked together to move the shop into its new location getting everything set up in time for the Grand Opening, where customers were treated to a glass of celebratory zz and cakes. e shop is open Monday to Saturday 10am to 4pm. Folk Singer-songwriter Starts Local Dementia Singing Club Published folk singer-songwriter Amy Hopwood has recently set up Forget-me-not Singing Club, a fun and friendly singing club in Brockenhurst, for people living with dementia and their friends. Amy grew up in Dibden Purlieu and went to Applemore School, but le the area to go to University and then on to work. Until recently Amy has been living in Devon writing and singing folk music, her songs have been played on BBC 6 Music and many other radio stations. In July Amy made the decision to move back to the area to help support her parents, as Amy’s Mum has dementia. Amy comments: “One of the things that never really seems to be forgotten is melodies and lyrics and I’ve seen so many people, including my mum, really light up when they start singing. So, when I moved back to the area, it seemed like a good idea to use my musical skills to set up a dementia friendly singing club in the New Forest. Everyone is welcome to join us!” Forget-me-not Singing Club runs on Fridays from 2pm to 3.30pm at Brockenhurst Methodist Church Hall, Avenue Road, Brockenhurst, SO42 7RT. Each session is £3 per person including free tea/co ee and biscuits. e club is aimed at people living with dementia and their friends, relatives and carers, but anyone else who just fancies a good sing is very welcome to join too.
