Page 76 • The HERALD • 26th October 2023 v SAY YOU SAW IT IN THE HERALD v SPORT IN THE HERALD Celebrating Snooker Success at Hythe Club Dibden Open Golf Society (DOGS) Results Hythe Club’s snooker team ‘C’, were presented trophies by Steve Parrish at a recent celebration event, for achieving ‘runners up’ in the Premier League. e team Captained by Russ Patrick included Lee Ashbolt, Paul Couch, Je Allen, Dave Nicholas and Steve Tonks. Lee Ashbolt was also presented with a trophy for the highest break of 74. e Club and members are very proud of their success and wish them well in the next season. Hythe Club also wished good luck to their 3 snooker teams, crib team and men’s and ladies dart’s teams for the season ahead. 19th September the DOGS played a Team 3 Ball Bowmaker Stableford Competition over 9 holes where the best 2 scores count and also to include an individual highest overall stableford points scorer. Winning Team: D Webster, G Tourle & C Peal (42) 2nd: Ursula Symes, P Mortimer & B Barnard (41) 3rd: P Wastell, C Ellis & A Hare (40). Highest stableford score: U Symes (22). Pros approach: P Wastell (13th) and D Webster (15th). 22nd September the DOGS held their Annual Away Day at e New Forest Golf Club in Lyndhurst where good golf was played (Feary good golf) and excellent food followed. Winner: T Feary (36) 2nd: Gail Feary (35) 3rd: Ursula Symes (33C/B) 4th: T Dempsey (33). Bramshott Hill Seniors Results Monday 25th September and in good weather conditions 37 Bramshott Hill Seniors set out to play a Stableford quali er. e course was su ering from a fungus named ‘Dollar-Spot’. is a ects the greens and therefore makes putting more di cult. e excellent ground sta are treating the greens and hope to irradicate the condition soon. In spite of this some very good scores were returned and the results were as follows: Division One: 1st Barry Walker 20HCP 35pts, 2nd Nigel Trickey 15HCP 35pts, 3rd Robert Hallett 18HCP 33pts; Division Two: 1st John Bailey 25HCP 40pts, 2nd Gary Howe 22HCP 39pts, 3rd Johnny Hooper 21HCP 37pts; Division ree: 1st Paul Collins 29HCP 49pts, 2nd George Carroll 33HCP 37pts, 3rd David Wyatt 37HCP 34pts. Monday 2nd October saw 35 Seniors again contesting a Stableford quali er. Surprisingly for this time of year the weather is still being kind and the was dry and warm. Winter lies are now in force on the course as the ground becomes damper. e greens although having been treated were still su ering from the ‘Dollar Spot’ fungal infection. Despite these problems some decent On 14th September, a lovely sunny day, one of the more unusual trophies in New Forest Golf Club Seniors’ calendar attracted 40 competitors using just three clubs including a putter in a strokeplay competition o the yellow tees. ere was plenty of entertainment watching players trying to get out of bunkers with 7 and 8 irons and attempting to clear the bog on the 10th and 15th holes with hybrids. Several however managed to avoid such hazards and nished with some very good scores suggesting that there may be little need to carry an extra 11 clubs in their bags. Competition in Division 2 was tight with Charlie Hughes just edging ahead of Wayne Niles on countback, but it was Division 1’s Chris Hughes who emerged winner of the Jack Langford Players enjoying their meal after the match scores were returned and the results were: Division One: 1st Paul Wastell 41pts, 2nd Barry Walker 39pts, 3rd Stuart Bulbrooke; Division Two: 1st Phillip Lebrun 38pts (c/back), 2nd Michael Webb 38pts, 3rd Johnny Hooper 37pts; Division ree: 1st John Yapp 42pts, 2nd George Carroll 33pts, 3rd Ron Smith 29pts. Wednesday 4th October a team from Bramshott Hill Seniors travelled the short distance to New Forest Golf Club for an interclub match. e weather was calm and warm and a close match was anticipated. When all games were in Bramshott Hill Seniors had once again won the day. e usual banter and jokes followed with the hosts buying drinks for their opponents. A pleasant meal followed in the clubhouse before all players made their way home. JACK LANGFORD TROPHY Fawley’s U12s Hampshire Cup Runners Up Twenty teams across Hampshire came to a sunny Gosport and Fareham to complete in a well organised positive spirited tournament. Fawley brought a squad of 15 boys who wanted to have some fun and play as one team. Fawley performed strongly in the group stages and were undefeated against some strong teams. Fawley completed the group stages scoring the highest numbers of tries (20) across all 20 teams. Semi finals were upon them against Bournemouth- needed extra time, with Fawley edging it. In the final Fawley faced the well drilled Winchester team. Despite the huge commitment and passion from all the Fawley boys they couldn’t quite match their opposition. e boys le the event feeling proud how they tried their best and work so hard for one another. A real one team performance. Runners up against 20 teams cross Hampshire was a huge achievement for the boys. e parents, grandparents, siblings and coaches were all so proud.
