Netley Marsh based charity, Tools for Self Reliance, are bringing their Christmas quiz to you for the rst time since 2019! e sell-out event was always a must-have in the diary, and a er the pandemic forced them into a hiatus, they are thrilled to be back! A er quite a few years of disruption to the winter calendar, Tools for Self Reliance can get their favourite annual event running again in your area. In previous years, it’s been a sell-out event, so the charity is very happy to bring it back to the public again. e quiz is created by charity CEO, Sarah Ingleby, who has always had a way with brain teasers and bringing something new to the trivia classic. From picture rounds, to quick re questions, you’ll be sure to nd yourself on the edge of your seat. Katie Wilson, Head of Fundraising and Communications of Tools for Self Reliance, said: “We were delighted that so many of the local community came out to support our Charity Quiz in the spring and so we’re really excited to be bringing the Christmas Quiz back again. It’s such a popular event that is vital in enabling us to run life changing projects in Africa and support our local community. By simply entering a team for the quiz, you could help us send a tailoring kit to Africa so that people like Sandra, are able to learn a trade and build a livelihood. We hope to see lots of you there!” e Charity Christmas Quiz will help to raise vital funds for a great cause. Right now, Tools for Self Reliance is working to support people learn practical skills to nd work and earn an income for them and future generations in their families. Working with local partners in ve African countries, the charity raises funds to support projects which deliver vocational training, complementing this with the provision of the tools, equipment and sewing machines needed to move into work. ese tools are donated to the charity by the public and collected and refurbished to excellent standard by a committed band of over 500 volunteers across the UK. e refurbished tools are given a second lease of life when given to trainees and graduates in the ve partner countries in Africa. Project participants are then supported to start their own businesses and generate a sustainable income for their future, helping to reduce the cycle of poverty many trainees face. e Charity Christmas Quiz takes place on Friday 24th November, at the Colbury Memorial Hall from 7pm and you are all invited! Tickets are only £8pp including a glass of mulled wine on entry. You can bring your own picnic in with you, and there is a cash bar provided for you to buy drinks on the night. A ra e will also be available with plenty of prizes up for grabs, not to mention a prize for the quiz winners! The Devon Belle – Part 3 e Railway Club of the New Forest meet next on Friday 24th November in the Forest Hall, Brockenhurst Village Hall, Highwood Road, Brockenhurst. SO42 7RY. Ken Mumford presents e Devon Belle – Part 3. Exeter to Ilfracombe/ Plymouth. After WW2 the Southern Railway was anxious to resume as soon as possible. Operation of this all Pullman luxury train began on June 20th 1947 from London Waterloo to Ilfracombe and Plymouth; unusual in that all seats had to be reserved and with an observation car at the end for Ilfracombe passengers. Despite initial popularity, the train was not such a success as hoped and the Plymouth portion was dropped in September 1949. Services were further reduced in 1952 and withdrawn entirely at the end of the 1954 summer season. Visitors welcome. £5 on the door. Arrive from 7pm and start at 7.30pm. The Devon Belle
