It took a lot of persuasion for the children to leave the play area because they were having so much fun, but we headed for the Animal Encounter Barn where we met some more of the Longdown animals as we waited for our turn, the children were each told how to safely hold a chick before being given one to hold and stroke and once the chicks were safely taken back by the sta , the children had a basket put into their laps containing a guinea pig to stroke. A er feeding the large goats, it was time for us to have our lunch, we chose to buy our food from the Farm’s café but there is plenty of seating outdoors and indoors in the Piglets Play Barn if you prefer to take a picnic. Piglets Play Barn has lots of interactive games and sensory activities to enjoy a er you’ve eaten. A er lunch we tried our hand at the 9 hole Pitchfork and Putt Crazy Golf Course, it’s charged at £1 per person for hire of the ball and the golf club, with lots of fun obstacles to navigate your ball through/around to get to the holes! A er a ride on the infamously bumpy tractor and trailer ride, behind the newly named tractor ‘Ruby’, we had a second visit to the play area before feeding the ducks and exploring the gi shop. I would thoroughly recommend Longdown Activity Farm for a day out, whatever your age or ability, there really is something for everyone to enjoy. When my children were younger we were regular visitors to Longdown, as season ticket holders for several years, but since both have started school and I’ve returned to work, we hadn’t managed to t in a trip to the farm since 2021. In October we had a fabulous day at the farm, we arrived in time for the start of the animal activity schedule starting with bottle feeding the hungry calves, and the adorable baby goats. We then went for a walk around the rest of the farm to meet some of the other animals including horses, donkeys, pigs, guinea pigs, rabbits, geese, ducks and chickens, we even found two freshly laid eggs which we took into the gi shop in return for a sticker! With a bit of time before the next animal activity we headed to the play area, both the children and I were amazed by the transformation that has taken place this year. ere’s lots of new farm themed play equipment, with a huge green tractor with tunnels and a slide out the back, for smaller children there’s a mini tractor and trailer with fun puzzles and games to play inside, a rocking pig with space for two and a jeep to pretend to drive. For the thrill seekers there’s a brand new zip wire and a challenging balance beam course running down the hill. Plus some old favourites are still there including the swings and of course the trampolines, which include a couple that are open to anyone under 90 to have bounce! e play area has been cleverly designed to integrate accessible play equipment with new paths and purpose built sections with wooden ramps leading to a variety of play boards with games Longdown Activity Farm - Even More Fabulous at Forty! by Sarah Bartlett, Editor New tractor in the play area Bottle feeding baby goats Romsey Country Market Romsey Country Markets will take place at Braish eld Village Hall (SO51 0PN) from 9.30am to 12.30pm on Saturday 25th November.
