At the meeting, the following were elected: Dr Mike Gibson as Chairman; Gordon Chambers as Vice-Chairman; Jenny Croxson as Treasurer; and John Watkins as Head Archivist. In addition, the following committee members were re-elected – Carolyn Bianchi, Annabella Drummond and Eddie Holtham. Since the meeting, Mary Warburton has volunteered to take over the role of Secretary from Mike Gibson – this is quite appropriate as she lives where their original Secretary, the late Mr John Towndrow, lived. Corinne Evans has also volunteered to become Membership Secretary. Robin Somes is helping to re-establish a Facebook page. ey have both been co-opted to the Executive Committee pending their election at the next AGM. In the meantime, Gordon Chambers is continuing the work started by Graham Parkes on the history of Dibden Purlieu and Carolyn Bianchi has made a start on the companion volume on the history of Marchwood. Work continues to make the Heritage Centre a more welcoming place by decluttering with the aim of reaching the walls so that they can redecorate. Tuesday mornings are now a hive of activity at the Heritage Centre with several volunteers helping with archiving and cataloguing. e numbers are almost at the stage A busy scene at the Railway Station at Hythe (now the Heritage Centre) on 23rd December 1950 (from the photograph collection held at the Waterside Heritage Centre) where they will be looking to extend their opening back to two or three mornings a week. ey have been able to help several people who have been researching their family history or the history of their homes. e repair work they have had to carry out has eaten into their reserves of money. ey shall therefore start collecting the annual membership fees again (£12 a year or £120 for Life Membership) in January. Look out for Facebook notices, emails and posters giving details of how to do this. Obviously, with no banks open in Hythe now, they would prefer to be paid electronically. Towards the beginning of next year, they aim to restart the quarterly newsletters together with exhibitions in the foyer. 100 Biscuits for 100 Years In celebration of the upcoming 100th anniversary of the formation of the Inner Wheel movement, all Inner Wheel clubs have been challenged to run events with ‘100’ as a theme. Rising to the challenge, Hythe and District Inner Wheel, under the leadership of President Jan Hoy, made 100 packs of biscuits and sold them at the International Rally on 8th November. Money raised has been split between three charities: School in a bag, e Book Bus and Butter y Tree. Will you dare to join in the last of this year’s Romsey Ghost Walks? e walk starts at 7.30pm from the Town Square on Thursday 28th December. Tickets are £7 and available from the Visitor Information Centre, Church Street, Romsey. All proceeds will be distributed to local charities.
