Barbershop chorus Ocean Harmony reached its twodecade milestone in October this year and is laying on an evening of A Cappella singing early in January at Hanger Farm Arts Centre in Totton. Supporting the choir on the night will be Southamptonbased ladies’ chorus Queen Bees. e groups o en meet up when they compete in local music festivals and competitions around Hampshire but will share the stage at the 20th Anniversary Charity Concert on Saturday 13th January at 7.30pm. Ocean Harmony is a member of the British Association of Barbershop Singers (BABS) and was launched by a handful of singers in 2003. Since then the choir has been producing some wonderful sounds during weekly rehearsals at Colbury Memorial Hall, Ashurst. Bass singer Paul Keeping, who also sings baritone, was present on the rst evening and is delighted the chorus is still in full voice 20 years on. “I had sung in my younger days,” he said. “But that was a long time ago. I remember my first impressions were of a friendly, supportive group who enjoyed singing and I quickly got hooked on the barbershop sounds with their ringing chords. Now, 20 years on, I am still singing!” added Paul who has also been chorus director and taken on just about every role other than treasurer. Ocean Harmony, which was declared the Most Improved Barbershop Chorus in the UK in 2017, is a registered charity and the evening will raise vital funds for the Solent Mind New Forest Well-Being Centre based in Hythe. Tickets cost £10 from: 023 8066 7683 or: minsteadtrust. org.uk/hanger-farm Ocean Harmony CHRISTMAS APPEAL FROM WATERSIDE FOODBANK In the 3 weeks leading up to Christmas the Waterside Foodbank will provide over 200 food parcels for local individuals and families in crisis.
