Starting their fundraiser during the Mistletoe Fair on Saturday 2nd December at 8am in Hythe Library and moving to Meeple Village for the overnight stint they completed their mammoth board gaming session at 8am on Sunday 3rd December. roughout the 24 hours others joined in with games and kept the team fed and watered. e board gamers raised over £100 for Hythe Alive, through both cash and online donations. Hythe Alive was formed by, and for, local traders and businesses. It was rst created to raise enough money to put the Christmas lights up around the village each year due to a lack of council funding. As well as the lights, the group has expanded to run events throughout the year to raise money to keep improving the local community including the infamous Halloween Treat Trail and Snow Days in Hythe. Looking ahead to this year Hythe Alive has plans to become a Community Interest Company (CIC) Luke set up Waterside Boardgaming in May 2022, they have regular sessions every Sunday with alternating tournament nals at Meeple Village, where there’s a oor to ceiling library of games just waiting to be played and ‘Board School’ once a month! Or you can pop into Meeple Village anytime to play a game with family and friends, whilst enjoying a drink and a snack. For the younger members of the family, Meeple Village is also home to a fabulous role play village complete with mini versions of some of the shops and businesses in Hythe, including ‘Meeple Mart’, Black Wax, Jane Bidwell Flowers, Mockingjay, JR Hardware, Uppercut, Seadown Vets and more! ere is still time to sponsor the Waterside Boardgamers that took on the 24 hour challenge, to donate please visit: gofund.me/4cbdb54e Marchwood Rocks to Strictly Fest! by Edgar Ruddock and introduce some new events to Hythe including a Pirate Day! On the afternoon of Sunday 26th November, Marchwood Village Hall resonated to the joyous sounds of a Strictly-themed concert, performed by Prelude Orchestra, Saxophonous, and the Romsey Tuekers. It was late a ernoon, and the hall was packed! Under the baton of their new conductor, Bernard Chinonso, the programme opened with a sequence of dances played by Prelude, including Tango, Samba and both a slow, and a Viennese Waltz. Each piece of music was introduced with a quick insight into the history and nature of the dance by John Bell. en followed a performance of ve Latin American pieces by Saxophonous (the Sax group within Marchwood Music Society), conducted and accompanied on drums by John Bell. ese covered Bossa-nova, Beguine, Samba and Salsa. e second half opened with a sequence from the Romsey Tuekers, including a delightful Buddy Holly Medley. Prelude then returned to o er a Jive, a Cha-Cha, Slow Foxtrot, Disco, and Quickstep (and it was quick!). e programme was then signed o with a Charleston nale involving orchestra and Ukeleles, playing a riotous version of “I wanna be like you” (including a live conga, and singalong by the audience!)
