For some while now only the top nine holes have been open and on some Monday mornings the Bramshott Seniors Competition has been abandoned. On Monday 18th December Bramshott Seniors were anticipating playing nine holes followed by their Christmas lunch. ankfully the weather did not interfere on this occasion and the game and the lunch went ahead according to plan. 33 players took to the course to play a Stableford game the results were as follows: 1st Brian Lewis 22 points C/B, 2nd Dave Wyatt 22 points C/B, 3rd Barry Walker 20 points, 4th Henry Porter 19 points C/B, 5th Gerrard Murphy 19 points C/B. Following the match a lunch was provided by the MyTime catering sta in the Solent suite at Dibden Golf Centre. is was enjoyed by 61 Senior members and their guests. A er lunch Seniors Captain Mike Wells presented a cheque for £2340 to Maureen Robb from the Waterside Cancer Support Centre. e money had been collected throughout 2023 at several of the Senior’s events. Maureen Robb, Manager of Wessex Cancer Support’s Waterside support centre, said: “Our thanks to Mike for nominating us as his charity of the year for 2023. We are so grateful for the amazing amount raised by the Seniors Section during the year. We’re a small charity and we rely on the generosity of people in our community because their contributions enable us to continue to provide free and local cancer support for anyone who needs it.” At the beginning of each year the incoming Captain of Bramshott Hill Seniors nominates which charity he would like to support for the coming year. e incoming Captain Dave Wilson has nominated two charities for 2024; Oakhaven Hospice in Lymington and Wetwheels Foundation who provide the opportunity for all disabled people to access the sea on board their specially built, fully accessible powerboats. Following the Charity presentation there followed the presentation of the trophies won during the well for the coming year, watch this space. Following the prestigious trophies awards was the presentation of the “Bandit of the Year” award. is was won by Dave Wilson (their incoming captain). is does not bode FAWLEY RFC NEWS Fawley RFC ended 2023 with their annual charity match, Legate v Leggett. e event is held in memory of former Fawley RFC 1st XV Captain, Pete Legate who lost his life in 2002, climbing Everest while raising money for children’s charities. is year funds raised are being donated to support Luke Orton of Sandown and Shanklin RFC. e 26 year old player was le paralysed a er breaking his neck during a beach rugby tournament on the Isle of Wight. Luke is currently undergoing rehab at the Spinal Treatment Centre in Salisbury. He is looking forward to returning home this year and his parents are raising money to make the adaptations needed to his home that Fawley Cricket Club (CC) look to the 2024 season to build on recent achievements. Included among these are ground/ facilities improvements at the Holbury Sports and Social Club adjacent to the New Forest Academy, entering a women’s team into the W10 tournament for the rst time and expanding the number of coaches across all age groups. e club has also maintained a long standing community relationship with the adjoining school whereby volunteers deal with the wicket upkeep so that pupils have the opportunity to play cricket. With these solid foundations Fawley CC would like to improve the club playing strength. Adult indoor training is scheduled to commence on Monday 5th February 8.30pm - 10pm at New Forest Academy. Fawley CC welcomes interest from new players especially those with ambitions to access First Team Cricket in the Southern League. However, the club would also like to hear from potential recruits for the colts section, women’s team including beginners, 20/20 midweek side, regionally based Saturday teams as well as anyone interested in umpiring or scoring. For the forthcoming season, Fawley CC also seek a tea person for 9 Saturday home league fixtures (contact the club for more details). Multi-generations of the same families were represented in both matches, playing together as well as supporting. Tottonians Rugby Club who are based in Water Lane Totton, are inviting people of all ages; from Year R (5 years old) to Senior Players, no matter if you’ve played before, your skill set or talent! Rugby is an inclusive game, for all abilities and ages. e Seniors (18 years+) train on a Tuesday and Thursday, 7.30pm to 9pm and Saturdays 2pm to 4pm. e Colts (1618 years) train on a Tuesday and Thursday 7pm to 8.30pm and the Juniors/Minis (5-16 years) train on Sundays 10am to Midday, usually an hour or so (depending on age). e Under 16’s, 15’s and 14’s also train on Wednesday evenings from 6pm to 7.30pm. e club are really keen to hear from anyone in their school year 10 (U15’s). Coaching is provided by England Rugby Union Quali ed Coaches, at all levels. ere is access to gym facilities, physio support and strength and conditioning advice. e club has its own clubhouse and a great social atmosphere.
