The new book is a companion volume to The New Forest at War, an acclaimed book, first published in 2004. WW2 New Forest Discovered is now on sale at The Herald office in Hythe, priced at £15.99. The new title builds on the original work, with additional, recently researched material, much of which was drawn from the authors association with the local Wartime Memories Project, a National Park initiative. WW2 New Forest Discovered is a fascinating journey that captures the essence of an historic era, blending storytelling with previously unpublished photographs. Michael Hulse whose family has owned Breamore House for many generations, has written the Introduction. Breamore was requisitioned for wartime use and has an association with General George Patton. Local, WRNS veteran Marion Loveland has also contributed to the book by way of an endorsement. The author, John Leete, has included a helpful New Forest reference section and to set the storyline in the context of the county, there is a detailed Hampshire reference section as well. As the Forest’s pivotal role in helping to shape world history is unveiled, be prepared to be inspired, moved, and amazed by the untold stories of heroism, dedication and sacrifice that lingered beneath the forest canopy. When Angie and Darron Dillon sadly lost their beloved son George following a car accident, they decided to set up George Dillon Only a Dream Away CIC in his honour, to help young persons living in Hampshire that have sustained a traumatic brain injury or have acquired a brain injury. Among other injuries George suffered an irreversible traumatic brain injury and succumbed to his injuries two days after when his life support was removed. George was well-loved and his local community came out in force with a very large tractor procession led by Romsey Young Farmers escorting George to his final resting place in July 2023. Angie and Darron comment: “Our son was such a loving young man who would help anyone if he could and so in forming George Dillon Only a Dream Away CIC we are taking strength in the hope we can help others in honour of our son. We aim to assist those who have sadly suffered a traumatic or acquired brain injury by providing products or services that mitigate the impact of their injuries, enabling them to live as comfortably as possible with their loved ones.” If you or a family member has been hospitalised and is struggling to get home following a serious head injury, or a loved one is struggling at home because an adaptation For anyone wishing to make a donation toward this wonderful cause, please contact Angie Dillon as detailed above.
