Get set for the Oakhaven Walk! Taking place on Saturday 18th May*, this fundraising promenade along the spectacular Dorset and Hampshire coast is the perfect challenge, providing the opportunity to get out and enjoy our beautiful local shoreline with friends, family or colleagues whilst raising much-needed funds for Oakhaven Hospice. Choose to walk one of three distances along stunning seafront and coastal paths to Oakhaven Hospice; approximately 26 miles from Sandbanks, 14 miles from Mudeford or 8 miles from Barton-on-Sea. Registration is now open at oakhavenhospice.co.uk/ oakhaven-walk: - 26 miles from Sandbanks to Oakhaven: £18 (or £30 including coach transfer) - 14 miles from Mudeford to Oakhaven: £15 - 8 miles from Barton on Sea to Oakhaven: £12 For children aged under 16 a £5 discount will apply. The registration fee includes a technical T-shirt to wear on the day, snacks and drinks for all distances, Seashore Safari at Lepe lunch for those walking 26 miles, a glass of fizz at the finish line (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) and food at the finish line. Entrants are asked to commit to raising a minimum of £100 in sponsorship or donation for Oakhaven Hospice. All funds raised will help Oakhaven to continue providing palliative care and support to patients and their families throughout the New Forest, Totton and Waterside areas, free of charge. As well as the ten beds in the Inpatient Unit, Oakhaven cares for patients with life-limiting illnesses in their own homes - around 300 at any time. Last year Oakhaven cared for 1,394 patients and their families and loved ones, with around 3,200 people visiting the Coates Centre to benefit from wellbeing support. All in all, the Oakhaven Walk provides a great way to start 2024, by challenging yourself to train for and take part in a fun, scenic event whilst supporting a highly important local cause. Discover the many amazing marine creatures which are uncovered on Lepe’s shore at low tide. This event will involve walking on the inter tidal area, identifying various marine species, so please wear suitable footwear as it will be wet and slippery under foot. Dress appropriately for the weather conditions. £4.50 per person with under 3’s free, pre-booking essential. Under 16’s to be accompanied by an adult. Usual parking charges apply. Sorry, dogs are unable to accompany owners on this occasion. Totton Repair Café Totton Repair Café is running on Saturday 17th February, 10.30am to 1pm at Totton & Eling Community Centre. The aim of the Totton Repair Café is to try and prevent small household goods from going to landfill if they stop working. You can take along small electrical or other items too good for the tip, you can sit and help/observe with any repair and refreshments are available while you wait for a small charge. It’s also an opportunity to find out more about the Repair Café and Men’s Shed. After your repair is completed all they ask for is a voluntary donation towards the cost of the hall and insurance.
