It’s one of those topics that is sometimes deemed too embarrassing to discuss or admit to and it can become a secret problem. Hirsutism can occur for many reasons but hormonal imbalance is often the culprit with menopause and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) the most common. Whether it’s the odd stray hair on the chin or more excessive growth on the lip or cheeks, facial hair can cause women to feel anxious and selfconscious. Many women rely on temporary, home solutions such as plucking, waxing, threading and shaving to try and combat the regularly over a period of time and gradually the hair will become softer, finer, take longer to regrow and eventually be permanently gone. Charlotte Footman is one such local practitioner. She has been an Electrologist for over 30 years and specialises in treating women with excessive facial hair that arises from hormonal imbalance. Treatment isn’t limited to women, men often have issues with unwanted hair too. She has many years of experience working both privately and within the NHS in Dermatology and Endocrinology. She can also use Electrolysis techniques to treat a variety of skin blemishes. Broken veins, skin tags, milia, warts and other benign lesions are all within her expertise. She has recently moved to Hampshire and is offering Electrolysis treatments at Water Lane Dental, in Totton. Consultations are free and you can contact her directly for more information and prices on: 07803 142394. problem but those that do will soon come to realise that the more they use these methods the worse the problem can get. Plucking and waxing can stimulate more hair growth and lead to existing hair becoming stronger and coarser. Shaving can also cause facial hair to thicken and feel bristly and these methods can over time, sensitise and ultimately damage the skin, causing discomfort and frustration. Electrolysis is a method of permanent hair removal that is used to treat unwanted, excessive facial hair. A qualified practitioner will use a very fine needle to apply a small burst of energy (short wave diathermy) to the root of each hair to cauterise the blood supply to the hair follicle. This disables the hairs and allows them to be gently removed. The treatment needs to be repeated Charlotte Footman The New Forest Branch of Parkinson’s UK welcome all Parkinson’s people and their Carers to join a fun chair based exercise class with the emphasis on functional fitness, followed by coffee, biscuits and chat.
