7th March 2024 • The HERALD • Page 47 v THE HERALD - Proud to be part of your communityv WE CARE, YOU CARE Quiz and Curry Evening Achieves Fundraising Success A quiz and curry night hosted by Age Concern Hampshire proved to be a great success, lled with generosity, a strong sense of community spirit, and a collective dedication to their cause. e fundraising event was held at Lockswood Care and Wellbeing Centre on Friday 26th January and was attended by sta , Volunteers, and the wider community. e fully-booked night featured a performance by a skilled local Ukulele Group – e Soberton Strummers Ukulele Club, who enchanted the audience with their musical melodies. Alongside the live music, the event showcased a quiz, ra e, and a delicious homemade curry, cooked by their skilled chef. Sarah Jacobs, Marketing Manager at Age Concern Hampshire said: “We’d like to say a big thank you centres throughout the county, as well as Help at Home, Information via their Information Hub, Foot care clinics, Hospital to Home Services, Community Information Volunteer Services, and a variety of other activities. The funds raised will enable us to create a significant and positive impact on the lives of older individuals within the local community”. e event was held in Locks Heath and received incredible support from local residents and the broader community. e charity received generous contributions through donations, volunteering and purchased tickets to attend the event. is combined e ort made a signi cant impact, with the event raising over £400 in vital funds and highlighted the power of coming together to support local communities. Founded in 1985, Age Concern Hampshire provide services to the older community of Hampshire. e charity currently deliver support at Care & Wellbeing Waterside & Totton Good Neighbours and Befriending Service e Waterside & Totton Good Neighbours and Befriending comes under the umbrella of Age Concern New Forest. e service o ers local people neighbourly help with a wide range of basic tasks that can make a huge di erence to an older person who is otherwise vulnerable or socially isolated. With their small team of volunteers they support and help to enable and maintain independence. Age Concern New Forest run a Computers at Home Service, with 3 volunteers providing a 1-to-1 service for clients needing help to gain more con dence or knowledge with their mobile phones, iPads, tablets, laptops and computers. e volunteers provide a 1 hour session at a subsidised cost of £5 and a maximum of 6 sessions can be booked.
