Heath Robinson at War (running until 14th April), showing a wide selection of Heath Robinson’s humorous drawings from both World Wars. e exhibition contains around sixty pieces of original artwork together with books, Christmas cards made for di erent military units, and letters from the troops and the public thanking him for his morale-raising e orts, with suggestions of subjects for future drawings. For more information visit: www.facebook.com/ NewForestMarque Dictionary definition: A person who leads a ceremony or celebration such as a marriage or funeral. What do we do?: We prepare ceremonies/services and o ciate at weddings and funerals, baby-naming, vow renewals etc. A little bit about me… I am Jackie Deakin and I live in Landford. Being local, the areas I can serve include Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire and possibly further a- eld on consultation. I am an ex-Registrar and have o ciated at over 70 weddings and I have now completed my funeral celebrancy with the Fellowship of Professional Celebrants. A little more about Weddings: A Celebrant at a wedding will meet with the Bride and Groom (or same sex couples) for an initial consultation and then prepare and ultimately perform a marriage ceremony. is can include verbal, contractual and personal vows and be adapted to t the characters/ personalities of the marrying couple and their family and friends. It can be funny, heart-felt with tons of meaning, spiritual or basic. You get to choose! is ceremony is NOT a legal ceremony as, according to the laws in this country, this still has to be done by the Registrars of the County Council. However many couples are opting for a short legal ceremony, with a personalised wedding ceremony either before or a er the o cial one, with the Celebrant creating and cra ing the personalised script/vows based on the couple, their life, family and friends. ere is no time limit and readings/poems/tributes are welcomed from loved ones and honoured guests. A little more about Funerals: is is always a sad occasion in anyone’s life and an End of Life Celebrant works closely with Funeral Directors to ensure your loved one’s ceremony runs smoothly. It is the last chance to say goodbye a er all, so a Celebrant will work diligently with you and your family to get it right. Unless you know of a Celebrant personally, your Funeral Director will appoint the right Celebrant to suit your family’s needs. Your Celebrant will visit you and your family, either in your home or at the Funeral Director’s o ce to talk with you about your loved one and will then cra a tting eulogy to honour the life of the recently departed soul, again with tributes and readings welcomed from any guests wishing to take part in the service. A Celebrant will also work closely with you to construct the Order of Service on your behalf, thus taking away some of the stress and overwhelm o en felt at these times. Other services: A Celebrant will also conduct BabyNaming ceremonies – a modern version of a traditional christening, which can include appointing “Guide-parents” to oversee a child’s spiritual progress, although parents do not always opt for this and simply have a service to welcome their child into the world. Vow renewals; Celebratory Birthdays and Anniversaries, Academic achievements or any other celebratory occasion can also be a reason a Celebrant may be hired. So, if you are planning a family gathering in 2024, or have lost a loved one recently and would like more information, here is my website: www.jadecelebrancy. co.uk I work closely with Jonathan Rust (Funeral Director) in Fordingbridge, Jon has worked for many, many years in the funeral industry and is now branching out on his own as an independant, local FD: www. facebook.com/jonathanrustfamilyfuneraldirectorsltd I also work with e Bell Inn at Brook (who have rooms for wedding ceremonies and wakes and also accommodation), the contact there is Charlotte Tyrie: bellinn-newforest.co.uk/ WHAT IS A CELEBRANT? by Jackie Deakin, JADE Celebrancy Jackie Deakin, JADE Celebrancy The Noble Bee’s stall at a New Forest Marque Producers’ Roadshow

Page 16 • The HERALD • 7th March 2024 v SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BUSINESSES v WATERSIDE NETWORK GROUP: MEMBER FOCUS by Simon Chadwick Shawfix Autos is an independent garage located in Dibden Purlieu, serving Waterside customers for the past 12 years. e MOT is an essential vehicle safety check, ensuring a minimum standard is met by all vehicles. Shaw x Autos carry out MOTs in strict adherence to the DVSA requirements. Annual training ensures that their testers are fully up-to-date with changing vehicle technology and the latest standards. Having MOT quali ed sta also helps to ensure that vehicle repairs and servicing cover all essential safety details. As a Class 4 MOT testing station, Shaw x can carry out tests on cars and small vans up to a maximum weight of 3 tonnes, including hybrid and electric cars. Check your vehicle’s MOT status at www.gov.uk/check-mot-history – then contact Shaw x if it’s due. A recent change to vehicle technology is tyre pressure monitoring (TPMS). Some systems rely on a small batterypowered transmitter inside of the valve that sends temperature and pressure data to the car’s computer. Over time these tiny batteries lose power resulting in a warning light on the dashboard, in some cases causing an MOT failure as well as loss of pressure monitoring. Ironically the special valves themselves can be a cause of an air leak from the tyre. Shaw x have the equipment and knowledge to resolve TPMS problems and get the system working again. As with all diagnostic procedures, Shaw x follow a systematic approach using state-of-the-art equipment to bring about the most cost-e ective repair. Shaw x Autos can carry out servicing and repairs on most vehicle makes and models, and have the technical data available to make sure your car is maintained to at least the manufacturer’s original standards. If they can’t help you then they usually have a trusted expert they can refer you to. Use www.shawfix.co.uk to make an online MOT or general booking enquiry, or contact Shaw x Autos directly using the details opposite. Reuben Shaw, Shawfix Noisy Neighbours? by Ian Parkes, IJ’s Plastering Services Are your neighbours noisy? Does it sound like they’re in the same room as you? Have you considered moving, but moving costs are too expensive? ere is an alternative. One of the most common questions I’m asked is, “How can I soundproof an existing wall?” Countless families in the UK su er from noisy neighbours, but there’s a soundproo ng option to solve it. If space is tight, acoustic sound boards can be tted directly to the wall without the need of building a stud wall, giving a high soundproo ng solution for problems such as music, intrusive conversation and TV noise. If you can a ord to lose a small amount of space then an independent wall system o ers exceptional performance against excessive noises such as shouting, very loud music, TV noise and impact noises. So, how does it work? e noisestop panels are comprised of acoustic plasterboard, two layers of mass loaded vinyl sandwiched between closed cell foam, giving a total weight of 41kg per panel. is is tted to the acoustic clip and channel system, giving excellent sound absorption. A proponent of the Picturesque style, he promoted the idea that ‘nature knew best’ and encouraged Exbury’s owner at the time, William Mitford, to open up a view from Exbury House to the Isle of Wight, install a ha-ha and create the Glade, all of which still remain today. Dads can also get half price entrance to the Gardens on Father’s Day 16th June. We cover Holbury, Fawley, Calshot, Langley, Exbury and Black eld areas. We are a very small group of willing volunteers who do our best to help those who need transport to ful l their daily lives. For the most part we take patients to hospital for their medical and treatment appointments. Mainly we help older generations who cannot drive, who are needing help in walking or maybe even seeing or maybe can’t drive because of their treatment on a speci c day. We are there for them to complete those appointments. We do not get involved with serious mobility cases as we are not trained health workers but we do o er an arm to lean on sometimes. Our importance to the community is clear from the number of regular clients we have. We all use our own vehicles for which we get a generous mileage allowance which covers our fuel and a little towards general running costs but sadly no actual payment.
