Her second design was spring! A wooden herb box was lined with wax paper and a block of oral foam was inserted. A relaxed, beautiful design was created using contorted willow, with catkins, as support for the spring owers. ese included mixed coloured tulips and purple clematis. A real tonic on a midwinter evening! Carole’s third creation was midwinter. A container was made from a bowl with shards of bark glued to it, giving a jagged tree trunk e ect. Euonymus was tucked in amongst the bark to ll gaps and moss to cover the oral foam at the end. A cool, snowy scene was created using white carnation blooms, agapanthus and eryngium dotted just above the euonymus. Beautiful and tranquil. Design number four was a mouth-watering peach and acidic green creation in an urn with a bowl secured to the top. To cover the bowl, Carole manipulated large, bright green fatsia leaves by threading their stalks back through the lower leaf. Various sizes, shapes, textures and shades of foliage were used throughout, including myrtle and pittosporum. Peach Avalanche roses and small green chrysanthemum blooms lit up the design. Carole’s nal arrangement was a double handled tropical basket. She had purchased a bunch which included palm leaves, variegated bamboo leaves, dracaena leaves- red and green, an ornamental pineapple and yellow gourds. She used these and mouth-watering orange heliconia to complete her tropical basket, scrumptious! 5 lucky winners from the ra e went home beaming and, as always, one person won a Guest Ticket to use in the next 3 months. Next meetings are: Thursday 7th March: AGM and Show Night ‘A Memorable Event’, Thursday 4th April: Demonstration Martina Coleman ‘Footlights and Clapper Boards’, Thursday 2nd May: in house Spring Promenade and refreshments. All meetings start at 7.30pm at Copythorne Parish Hall, SO40 2NZ. For more information please contact Debbie orne: 07769 830752. this as acceptable for special occasions and demonstrating. She feels that for ra e prizes it doesn’t seem acceptable to deconstruct an arrangement, created without foam, to give as a prize. e alternative being to increase the fee to the club in order to include the mechanics and container. However, she emphasised that arranging for ourselves, or gi s, using foam free methods is preferable and more environmentally friendly. Carole’s rst arrangement was a traditional triangle shape, using phormium leaves in dark green with a hint of red for height, elephant ear leaves and moss to cover the foam. Fatsia leaves were the base and beautifully placed sun owers made the vertical line. e di erent textures and re ections of light o the foliage complimented the sunshine yellow of the owers. A galvanised container added to the sunshine e ect. She used biodegradable floral foam and explained that she r e g a r d s Beaulieu Horticultural Society will meet on Thursday 7th March, 7.30pm, talk by Ray Broughton on ‘Vegetable and Herb Gardens’ at Beaulieu Village Hall.
