A close game was always expected a er the previous meeting of these teams ended in a 24-17 victory to Fawley, and the anxious spectators were treated to just that. Right from the opening kick-o what ensued was a roller-coaster of a game, featuring strong carries, hard tackles and some ferocious rucking and counterrucking. e ever-changing scoreboard told the story of the match. Wimborne were the rst to score, 5 to them. Fawley came back with a try, Eddie White and conversion Lewis Asher, 7-5 to Fawley. Wimborne scored again but failed to convert, 7-10. Fawley claimed another 5 through Oliver O’Brian, 12-10. Wimborne took the lead again 12-15. e deciding score was created by some quick thinking from y-half Fin Harris, who slotted through a loose ball for Fawley Captain Lewis Asher to chase. Showing a clean pair of heels to the Wimborne defenders, Lewis gathered the bobbling ball just inches inside the dead ball line and touched down for the winning try. In a game which could have gone either way, it was Fawley’s dominant scrum, relentless work-rate and excellent discipline which kept them in the game. e supporting crowd could not have been treated to a more entertaining a air, and showed their appreciation to both sides at the nal whistle. Having already secured their Divisional 4 title, the lads will be looking to ‘do the double’ in what is sure to be another thrilling match-up when they meet Tadley RFC in the Bowl Final, hosted by Winchester RFC on 24th March. Some great golf was played as the courses continue to improve and dry a er all the rainfall of the past months. Two birdies were shot on the 11th hole; well done to Viv Boot and Debbie Campbell (Captain). Debbie is a budding artist in her spare time, creating some beautiful pictures using all types of medium. To mark her year as Captain she has produced 53 watercolour birdie paintings; 12 British birds – one for each month and one of the paintings is presented each week for a birdie. On the 1st February, Viv Boot received a birdie painting of a bull nch.
