Images from the 1860s to the 1880s were used to illustrate the talk. Many of the location scenes were originally magic lantern slides which have been digitised and colourised. During the talk, Mr Gomm mentioned two prominent Victorians, W.C. Hughes, a supplier of cinematograph equipment including magic lanterns, and Henry Taunt. Henry was a photographer and publisher. He lived on a houseboat complete with a darkroom and a tripod mounted camera on the roof of the boat. He produced a number of guides for the ames which included his photos. He did a lot to popularise the use of the ames for leisure during Victorian times.
