Obviously, they’re perfect in salads, but equally tasty fried, grilled, stir-fried or in a pasta dish. Alternatively, they can be eaten just as they are for the perfect healthy snack. All Isle of Wight tomatoes are le to ripen on the vine and picked at the peak of their avour, so they reach the shops with a perfect blend of freshness and taste. Naturally sweet, these little gems are a must-try when the opportunity arises. As well as fresh produce, the clever people at Isle of Wight Tomatoes create the most exquisite pesto sauces, chilli jams, spicy aioli, and sun-dried, oak-roasted tomatoes; the ingredients grown on the FOR WINE LOVERS Island farm and resulting produce are available to buy in the Longdown Farm Shop. Another welcome annual March visitor to Longdown is local rhubarb, grown in Titch eld, Hampshire. is vegetable – for that is what it is, despite being eaten with sugar and custard – will be a welcome addition to the Farm Shop shelves, loved as it is by the Farm Shop regulars. Another seasonal vegetable due to make a comeback soon is the beautiful purple sprouting broccoli. Tender and packed full of vitamins and minerals, it is an ideal accompaniment to a variety of dishes, but not, in this case, custard! With spring, comes Mother’s Day, and the perfect opportunity to spoil Mum. e Longdown Farm Shop has many tasty treats in store, and from just £15 they o er a wonderful chance to ll a custom-made hamper basket with all the goodies that she loves. Alternatively, the pre-packed hampers are very popular such as Honey Lover – full of local honey sweet surprises – or the Garlic Lover, crammed with divine garlic goods from e Garlic Farm. A perennial favourite is, of course, the delicious range of tasty handmade chocolate from the Beaulieu Chocolate Studio, made right here in the New Forest. For these, and much more local seasonal produce, do call into the Longdown Farm Shop for a fresh start to spring. Locally grown rhubarb MUSIC MAKING AND SHARING Music Making and Sharing takes place on the 3rd Saturday of the month (16th March and 20th April) from 2pm to 5pm at Calmore Village Hall, Pauletts Lane, Calmore SO40 2RS. e cost is just £5 payable at the door. e group welcome and encourage musicians to go along to share their musical skills and are open to listening to other peoples’ musical enthusiasm – with the instrument of their choice and the genre they like. If you compose your own music, they would love to hear it. Or perhaps you would like a space for presenting/trying out pieces you are going to perform elsewhere, including a music exam. You need to take along your instrument, music and equipment including a music stand if you require one. ere is a piano. If you are a singer and require accompanying, please take your accompanist along. Anybody who would like to play/sing a couple of pieces to non-judgemental fellow musicians is welcome.
