Brockenhurst Bowling Club is holding its annual Open Day on Saturday 26th April, 10am – 4pm. ey are keen to encourage people to try their hand at playing lawn bowls, which genuinely is a sport for all ages. A selection of bowls and a helping hand will be provided on the day: you just need to dress comfortably and bring at-soled shoes to wear on the green. e club is at the far end of the car park in Brookley Road, opposite Tesco - look for their big green sign, walk in, give your details at the clubhouse and you’ll be ready to have a go. Brockenhurst Bowling Club is a small members’ club a liated to both Bowls England and Bowls Hampshire, as well as to the New Forest and Southampton Associations. is enables members to play against other clubs in leagues and competitions but for the less competitive there are also plenty of opportunities to just turn up and play informally. During winter months when the green is closed they hold social events in the comfortable lounge and members bar, such as co ee mornings, skittles (sometimes against other bowling clubs) or quiz evenings. Monthly Medal Experiencing three seasons in one day on Tuesday 4th March, with the initially hard frost warming to almost summer heat under cloudless skies, 44 New Forest Golf Club Seniors competed in this rst individual strokeplay medal competition of the 2025 season. Steve Duckett playing o scratch achieved a brilliant 1 under par 68 to take the Division 1 medal, while Dave Barrett also scored a great nett 68 to win Division 2. February’s Golf Nearly A Wash-Out For BHGC Ladies! ursday’s is golf day for the women of Bramshott Hill Golf Club (BHGC) and the month of February started on a bright sunny day. It was crisp underfoot, but a great day for golf. Results for ursday 6th February - Nine holes were played on the 18-hole course. Julie Weatherdon won division one on countback beating Jacs Howells. Jane Physick came top in the second division with Sue Hallett coming in second. Marion Robinson won the 9-hole competition with an impressive 22 points, Gill Munro was second just beating Wendy Davies on countback. Unfortunately, the following three ursdays were not favourable for playing golf with the weather and adverse conditions being just too much! A few hardy souls ventured out but no competitions were played. Fingers crossed for a bright and sunny spring. However, all was not lost, with many ladies meeting and socialising at the club and practising their skills in the driving range. e Ladies’ changing room was a hive of activity with many members joining in to help paint ready for the spring and summer seasons. On these competitions undersize sh count for points which were pouting, 5 bearded rockling, whiting and ounder. Fish are all measured and weighed and released back into the sea as quickly as possible. In total 25 sizeable sh were weighed for a total weight of 20lbs 0-¾oz. Best round sh of the evening was a small eyed ray weighing 4lb 14¾oz caught by Malcolm Stote. Best specimen sh was a dog sh weighing 2lb ¾oz also caught by Malcolm Stote. Results: 1st Malcolm Stote with 8lb 14⅞oz, 2nd Roland Blomfield with 3lb 14½oz, 3rd Andy Richmond with 1lb 14¾oz, 4th Simon Stockley with 1lb 13oz, 5th Tom Short with 1lb 6oz, 6th Bruce Samber with 1lb 3-8oz, 7th Shane Samber with 1lb 1oz, 8th Both Derek Slack and Steve Monckton with 0lb 3⅛oz. Best at sh pool was a rollover of £42 until the next competition. AFC Totton Academy Trials AFC Totton is holding Academy Trials on Thursday 17th April, 3pm–4pm, at Ganger Farm Sports Park in Romsey. Pre-registration is required via: accesssport.ac.uk/partners_academies/ access-sport-afc-totton/ SPORT IN THE HERALD Southampton cardiac charity Heartbeat has raised £2,850 at this year’s popular quiz night, beating its own fundraising record. e Beat the Heat quiz night was held on 20th February at e Concorde Club, Eastleigh, and saw teams of six pitting their wits against each other, testing their general knowledge to the maximum all while raising muchneeded funds for the charity. Winning team “A Quiz Team” from Paris Smith took home the coveted trophy, and there were plenty of superb prizes up for grabs in the ra e. Tina Richardson, Head of Operations at Heartbeat, commented: “The stakes were high for this year’s quiz, as we had such a great night in 2024 and everyone gave so generously.
