ArtfulScribe is pleased to announce the return of much loved, locally led literature festival, Play on Words, running from 23rd October until 3rd November . e festival, now in its h year, will cover a wide range of events for people of all ages, centred upon a love of written language and spoken word. Founded by two friends in New Milton in 2018, previous years’ festivals have included everything from literary lunches hosted by articulate authors, through to wine tasting with a verbal twist, via music and spoken word events, heritage walks, comic creating and writing for wellbeing, as well as advice and support for writers. Festival producer and ArtfulScribe Executive Director, Bridget Floyer, says: “I’m really excited to see the return of the Festival this year with support from local people and a wonderful range of partners. We’re looking forward to once again creating a cultural experience that’s curated for and by people who live in the New Forest and surrounding area.” e Play on Words steering group welcomes involvement and ideas from local residents. Ways to be involved include suggesting ideas for a writing or reading event; helping to spread the word by putting up a poster or sharing yers; volunteering at festival events; or signing up to the newsletter to hear more as the programme is con rmed. To get in touch or nd out more visit: www. playonwords.co.uk TOTTON GOES TO ‘MARDI-GRAS’ Totton Goes to ‘Mardi-Gras’ on Saturday 21st June as Totton & Eling Carnival returns. Floats and walking entries can decorate/dress as they wish for the ‘Mardi-Gras’ theme. e procession of oat lorries will start at 4pm from AFC Totton and the walking entries will join from Calmore Industrial Estate. e procession will then make its way down Salisbury Road, around Asda Roundabout; along Ringwood Road into Maynard Road, Junction Road, Eling Lane, Rose Road and into Eling Recreation Ground where there will be stalls and a car boot sale along with Charles Cole’s Funfair. e carnival is watched every year by over 2,500 people from Totton and surrounding areas. Totton Carnival Committee raises monies for local charities and good causes throughout the year. To nd out about this and much more then go along to Marchwood Village Hall on Saturday 21st June between 10am and 4pm to view a “special” local history exhibition. Admission is free and refreshments will be available. e village War Memorial was thoroughly cleaned, the lettering re-painted and a new footpath around the memorial itself was added. All this was carried out in 2020 to mark the centenary of the memorial being unveiled. Currently the memorial looks in need of being cleaned again, but advice has been received that this work does not need to be carried out for a few more years. Funds will be needed for this to be done. is event aims to raise some funds towards this future work. One Romsey is a vibrant festival right in the heart of Romsey that unites people from all walks of life to immerse themselves in a colourful blend of traditions, music, dance, art, food, and storytelling, all re ecting the full spectrum of Romsey’s community. Taking place on Sunday 22nd June, 11am–4.30pm, the event will include the One Romsey Parade, live music in 3 areas of the town, street food, dancing and stalls and activities for everyone. You can take along small electrical or other items too good for the tip, you can sit and help/observe with any repair and refreshments are available while you wait for a small charge. It’s also an opportunity to nd out more about the Repair Café and Men’s Shed. After your repair is completed all they ask for is a voluntary donation towards the cost of the hall and insurance.
