First o the blocks for the diary is an open event in conjunction with the Environment Centre on the 29th September 7pm - 9pm venue TBC. e session will be led by an advisor from Retro t, who provide impartial advice on making homes warmer, cheaper to run, and ready for the future, as well as being more environmentally friendly. All welcome. For further information visit: www.myhomemadebetter.org Further open sessions are being arranged to cover, amongst other things, cycle and active travel routes across the Forest, include car parking; an update on the Black eld Pantry/HUB; and establishing a working group to focus on letters, petitions and local newspaper articles. In relation to active travel, check out Ben Webster’s report on Waterside Cycling Action Group’s Facebook page which outlines Hampshire County Council’s plans for the A326 and its long term implications. If anyone would like to join the group looking at letters, petitions etc please contact us. We receive a regular supply of requests for support from various organisations with a focus on environmental protection. Within the last 24 hours before putting this update together, for example, requests have come through for support on campaigns to reduce plastics waste, and in particular to put pressure on retailers to reduce their unnecessary use of plastic; from Surfers against Sewage to support action to end sewage pollution; and from a fellow Forest group Ringwood Actions for Climate Emergency (RACE against time) to ask MPs to support amendments to the Government’s Planning and Infrastructure Bill in order to preserve key environmental protections. For further information on the group and on planned meetings, issues to be considered etc please look at our website and Facebook pages. One of the features of our discussions this spring has been an exchange of “grow your own food” ideas aimed at maximising use of available space. One member, for example, has grown lettuce in a hanging basket outside her kitchen window, handy for picking a few leaves when required! On the good news front, reports from China of an electric car with a jaw dropping range of 932 miles on a single charge, thanks to a new type of solid-state battery. From the global to the local, great to see a fruit and veg stall back in Hythe market every Tuesday. A lot of the produce is grown in Wiltshire, which we’ll count as local enough! And even better news, a lot of it is plastic free. Just take your own reusable bags and enjoy. And stop press from the last issue of e Herald, good news of the work done at Teddy’s Farm to o er an ecofriendly camping experience on a working farm.
