Hythe & Waterside Rotary (H&W) members took pupils and sta from Oak Lodge School on a trip to Paultons Park for the day. A total of 35 children and 21 adults enjoyed a brilliant day of sunshine and smiles. Locally, this annual event is organised by H&W Rotarian Ray Lewis and they would also like to thank Lidl who provided lunches for the trip. H&W Rotarians David Saunders & Ray Lewis enjoying a breather at Paultons Park on the day BREAST WALK EVER Against Breast Cancer’s Breast Walk Ever returned to rural Hampshire for a third consecutive year on Sunday 8th of June. 150 walkers set out in near perfect conditions from the IBM Sports and Social Club in Hursley, just outside Winchester. e half marathon set o at 9.30am with the 10K participants following on at 11am. e club in Hursley provided the perfect backdrop for walkers returning triumphantly over the following hours, taking time to enjoy the festivities. Event organiser, Richard Martin said: “It was fantastic to see so many inspiring people take on today’s walking challenge. I want to thank everyone for making this year’s event so special. From our wonderful supporters to all the willing volunteers and our amazing route team that kept everyone both safe and sustained throughout.” Over £26,000 has thus far been raised by event participants with funds still coming in. Against Breast Cancer’s Breast Walk Ever events have been going since 2014. Walkers have raised in excess of £350,000 in that time towards research into secondary spread breast cancer; Breast Walk Event (Credit: David Chalk) a lot of which takes place at the University of Southampton. Participants enjoyed regular support stops and a complimentary massage at the nish to go with their hardearned medal. Pink ice cream was also available for all nishers to indulge in! In the UK over 370 men are diagnosed with breast cancer each year as well as over 55,000 women. Breast cancer is statistically the most common form of cancer in the UK. Against Breast Cancer fund vital research into secondary spread of the disease, the main cause of breast cancer related deaths.
