And there are plenty of exciting trips and open days to look forward to during the remainder of the season! Shieldhall’s August 2025 programme: Saturday 23rd August, 3.30pm–7pm, Steam to the Solent – A Celebration of Steam, marking RAIL200, Adults £45 Children £17 Family £107. Sunday 24th August, 12noon–6pm, Eastern Solent Cruise passing Osborne House, Ryde and the Solent Forts, Adults £62 Children £23 Family £147. Saturday 30th August, 3.30pm–7pm, Liners Day and Steam to the Solent, Adults £45 Children £17 Family £107. Sunday 31st August, 11.30am–6pm, ‘Jane all at Sea’ - Jane Austen and her nautical connections Trip to Portsmouth with a Merchant Navy Day Service, Adults £62 Children £23 Family £147. ‘Steam’ is the order of the day on Saturday 23rd August, with steam punk enthusiasts on board together with members of the Guild of Railway Artists as Shieldhall marks RAIL200, with a commentary focusing on the development of the railway and expansion of the Docks, and the revered ‘boat trains’ that used to pull up to and alongside the liners. e Liners Day sailing on Saturday 30th August will be preceded by a free to enter open day between 10am – 2pm, with liner and other nautical memorabilia stands organised by the Ocean Liner Society. Use this wonderful opportunity to visit Shieldhall in its historic location adjacent to the former King George V Dry Dock, that once welcomed the great ocean liners, including the Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth! Another anniversary date is marked on Sunday 31st August, with a special Jane Austen inspired trip to Portsmouth Harbour. Shieldhall welcomes members of the Sarah Siddons Fan Club on board who will be performing street theatre on board. ere will also be a Merchant Navy Day Service conducted by the Shieldhall Padre, e Reverend Dennis Mould. e Shieldhall season concludes over the weekend of steam assisted steering gear (similar to that used on Titanic); talk to the Captain and her volunteer crew and listen to an informed commentary on the sights and sounds of Southampton Water and the Solent. Shieldhall will pass close to a range of marine tra c, always the chance for her crew to sound Shieldhall’s distinctive steam whistle and siren! Shieldhall’s teak decks provide great viewing spaces, whilst her steam propulsion lends itself to Shieldhall o ering a stable viewing platform, ideal for photography. Guests can relax in Shieldhall’s Saloon with a wide range of refreshments including tea / co ee; bottled beers; wine and hot and cold food, available on all trips. Once onboard, guests are encouraged to visit Shieldhall’s impressive engine room complete with its original steam engines at work and the bridge, with its traditional instruments and gleaming brasswork; admire the ship’s View a unique collection of art inspired by the local area at the Look Twice Artists Art Exhibition at the Five Arrows Gallery in Exbury Gardens, open daily until 17th August, free entry with Gardens admission or membership.
