Described by London Jazz as “bold, adventurous, and uncompromising” Raph Clarkson is an outstanding trombonist, improviser, composer/arranger and workshop leader who believes in the power of music to connect communities and collaboration. Raph is currently involved in a variety of projects across multiple genres including Isaac Birituro and e Rail Abandon, a Ghana/UK collaboration for which he arranges horns, plays trombone and synths and was released to critical acclaim on the Wah Wah 45s record label. He has also featured on albums by Laura Jurd, Overground Collective and e World Service Project as well as Ledley, e Dissolute Society and Equal Spirits, a South Africa/UK collaboration which released Wise and Waiting to critical acclaim. Raph has also been commissioned to write music and words for e Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, the Britten Sinfonia, the London Sinfonietta and such as the great jazz pioneers Kenny Wheeler, Keith Tippett and John Taylor as well as his own father, renowned viola player Gustav Clarkson.
