In her moving speech, she said: “I think RomDAG is a wonderful, wonderful charity. I say this because my husband was diagnosed with dementia in 2005. I had the great privilege of looking after him for 14 years and I would do it again in a heartbeat. But for many people it is a very challenging journey, and I have great empathy for those who are caring for people with dementia and for those who are experiencing dementia. At the beginning, when you find that your memory is not working, it is a mystery and it is very frustrating. I send huge love to the carers and those with dementia.” Her words resonated deeply with the audience, setting a tone of compassion and solidarity for the day. Demfest was also honoured to welcome a number of distinguished guests and long-standing supporters. Among those attending were Rt Hon Caroline Nokes, Conservative MP for Romsey and Southampton North; Nick Adams-King, Leader at Hampshire County Council; Councillor Gordon Bailey MBE; Councillor Colin Burgess, Deputy Mayor of Romsey Town; Clare Goddard, Director of Sir Harold Hillier Gardens; and Nick Gilbert from Gilberts Nursery in Sher eld English, a dedicated supporter of the charity for many years. Although rain fell on and o throughout the day, it did nothing to dampen the spirits of those who came. Festivalgoers enjoyed live performances, stalls, and activities, all designed to bring joy and connection to the community. Beyond the entertainment, the heart of Demfest was its message: to shine a light on dementia, to support carers, give vital information and to remind everyone that no one is alone on this journey. Janet Pratley, RomDAG Chairperson expressed gratitude to all who attended and supported the event especially Ian Bradford, Outreach Radio, David Jewell and as well as Susan Hampshire and the many dignitaries who gave their time to show solidarity with the cause. e day was a reminder of the power of community in facing challenges together, and a celebration of hope, love, and resilience.
