Est., Hythe 023 8084 0163 To advertise your business in The Herald, contact Sue on 023 8084 0815 or email: sjones@herald-publishing.co.uk ‘RACING PRIDE’ EXHIBITION WINS SPORTING HERITAGE AWARD e National Motor Museum exhibition Racing Pride: Celebrating the LGBTQ+ Community in Motorsport has won the category of ‘Celebrating LGBTQ Sporting Heritage’ at the Sporting Heritage 2025 Awards. e Awards aim to recognise a breadth of activity taking place across the heritage sector, platforming voices which have been previously unheard, celebrating the breadth of sporting heritage which exists across the UK. e awards were presented at the world-famous Headingley Stadium in Leeds on 13th November. Director of Collections, Andrea Bishop and Senior Curator, Sarah Wyatt were there to accept the award along with Richard Morris of Racing Pride who worked closely with the Museum to put together the exhibition. Racing Pride: Celebrating the LGBTQ+ Community in Motorsport set out to shine a light on the unique personal journeys of LGBTQ+ individuals across motorsport disciplines, from early trailblazers such as Roberta Cowell to heroes and role-models who are racing today. It highlighted the crucial role of vocal, visible allies in creating a sport for everyone. It also included the story of Racing Pride - the world-leading movement launched in 2019 which is championing One. e National Motor Museum also wanted to inspire all LGBTQ+ people who visited to feel that they were valid, valued, and belonged both in motorsport and the Museum. Meetings nish at around 3.30pm, but everyone is invited to stay for tea and biscuits if they wish. ey regularly welcome between 90 and 100 people to their meetings. A er a short break over Christmas, the rst meeting for 2026, will be on Tuesday 6th January, with a talk from Bryan Hurst, about Fawley Men’s Shed. e meeting a er that will be on Tuesday 20th January, when the speaker will be John Edwards, local artist and teacher. Special interest groups meet regularly, including skittles, embroidery, and gardening. ere are lunch dates, which are o en fully booked on the day they’re announced. ere is a group that meets to play boules on alternate Thursday afternoons, at the Old Mill, Hardley. is group intended to continue playing throughout the winter months, weather permitting. But a er playing at the end of November, in a temperature of 7 degrees, even though the sun was shining, they may think twice before repeating the exercise! e table tennis group, which plays fortnightly at Gang Warily, is actively seeking more players. e history group meets every month, and for the next few sessions will be hearing about Kings and Queens, randomly chosen by individual members. ey have recently set up a Facebook page. “New Forest/Waterside u3a” Anyone who is interested in joining this friendly U3A group is welcome to go along to a meeting, or to contact the secretary if they’d like to chat rst.
