The Ron Waters Shield e Ron Waters Shield is presented to the winner of the 10 Hole Stableford on the day of the New Forest Golf Club Seniors Section AGM. Ron played as a Senior member for many years and was Competition Secretary in 1992 and Senior Captain in 1994. With the wind chill keeping the mercury hovering at -3°C, 46 members set out for this nal trophy match of the season. A hard frost made the usual links-style chip and run a risky venture with the ball seemingly willing to dart o in any direction (except straight) once it made contact with the various hoof prints or repaired divots that are a cherished part of this famous course. e other option for nding the frost covered greens was to throw the ball high with the hope that it would settle quickly and not bounce o at some unpredictable tangent. As the scores show, it was a tightly fought contest with only one point separating 1st from 4th in Division 1. In his post-match interview, the winner Charlie Von Landau, who has recently recovered from a dislocated shoulder, said the di erence was that he had one of those days where all his putts dropped, the kind of day that every golfer dreams about! All sh are weighed on the beach and returned as quickly as possible to the sea. A total of 81 sh were weighed for a total weight of 99lbs 15⅛oz. e best sh of the evening was a conger eel weighing 5lb 6oz caught by Patrick Dalton. Charlie Von Landau with the Ron Waters Shield MID-WEEK RECREATIONAL FISHING TRIP On a bright sunny November morning Lymington & District Sea Fishing Club held a mid-week recreational shing trip aboard “Piscary” out from Poole Harbour. With strong northerly winds forecast they le Poole Harbour and headed out several miles to a mark called e Spoils where skipper Matt dropped anchor. e shing looked very promising when Andy Hopkins’ rod bent double and Matt had the net ready only to nd that Andy had hooked into a big rock - taken home for his rock garden! But sh were caught Mike Fox had a blonde ray, Neil Pullman had a small eyed ray of 5lb 10oz. Robin Lane caught bass, smooth-hound, blonde ray and bream. e wind got stronger so they moved in near the piers where they dri ed for plaice with some success and also some squid were caught. Matt then moved them on to a rocky mark where bream, conger eels, gobies and small wrasse were caught. ey also had a number of squid but the wind was increasing and getting bitterly cold so they called it a day and headed for home.
