David Sweeting, Colin Kirkham, Tim Cairnes, Alex White and Simon Venables formed the team ‘Honeypot Hopefuls’ and ran the Reebok Ragnar Relay White Cli s Race. is was a 172mile/275km non-stop relay race. ey started in Maidstone on the Saturday morning, followed the coast round to Dover and nished 34 hours later in Brighton on the Sunday. is challenge is normally taken on by a team of 10 people, but Honeypot Hopefuls only had 5 members, so each runner covered an average distance equivalent to 1 and a half full marathons with little to no sleep. On completing the race David commented: “We did it, not that we had an ounce of doubt, and we all agreed (including a very experienced marathon runner) that this was by far the hardest thing we have done, we met some amazing people and found new limits, the medals were worth the effort. We recently had the opportunity to visit Honeypot and see the work they do; it was incredibly humbling and far beyond a worthy cause.” Viv Carter, Community Fundraising O cer from Honeypot said: “Everyone at Honeypot is so grateful to the Honeypot Hopefuls team for taking on this amazing challenge including climbing 1.7 times the height of Ben Nevis on their run, to support local young carers and give them the opportunity to take a break from their responsibilities at home.” Whilst the run was taking place, 14 young carers and vulnerable children age 5-12 were enjoying their annual weekend at Honeypot House, bouncing on the trampolines, swimming in the pool and having fun playing lots of party games with their friends. Honeypot Hopefuls have set their fundraising target high, hoping to provide Honeypot support to 2 local children for a whole year… they are nearly half way to this target of £1,050 already.
