However, if something goes wrong, then the great volunteers of the RNLI are there to help in all weather conditions, putting their lives at risk, to save yours. is free event, organised byHytheMarinaAssociation (HMA) and supported by Marina Developments Ltd (MDL), saw visitors from as far away as Warsash. e evening kicked o at 7pm with live music streamed with permission from the jolly nice folks at the BBC, before joining up with the live broadcasting of the Last Night of the Proms direct to the giant screen and stereo speakers. Over 250 people attended, with many bringing chairs, tables and picnics to enjoy the free event to sing and dance the night away, waving their Union Jacks to the classics. e weather this year was once again very kind, with a beautiful sunset as a backdrop to the wonderful event – a great night was had by all. A special thank you goes to all who went along and especially to those who gave. A tremendous £1,000 was raised for the RNLI which was presented to the Calshot RNLI crew on Sunday 6th October at Hythe Marina. Dave Lewis, Marina Manager, said: “What a fantastic event to help support and raise money for such a worthwhile charity. This is my first event like this that I have helped support as Marina Manager, here at Hythe and I look forward to working closely with the HMA in the future to organise and arrange other such events, to raise the profile of the marina, the village and the surrounding area, as well as the valuable work the RNLI does. A big thank you to all the volunteers who helped organise the event, naming a few but not all, Phil Bridges, Di Herbert, Jane Banting, Nigel Price and not forgetting our silver-tongued John McGuinn”. Di Herbert, HMA Social co-ordinator said: “Hythe Marina Association and MDL invited our local community onto the bund to celebrate the simultaneous broadcast of the Proms. Our fund- raising event enabled us to present the RNLI with a donation of £1,000. Thanks to Hythe Marina residents, berth holders and local residents who attended for their donations. Much planning and hard work by a team of volunteers enables us to put on such a professional, fabulous evening. Well done everyone”. e HMA and MDL are already planning next year’s events, supporting the RNLI with the annual ra race to be held at Hythe Marina on 2nd August and not forgetting the Last Night of the Proms in September. Please look at the Hythe Marina Village Facebook page for more information on these events and many more.
