As I listen and look, I seem to see e Love of Power, so strong, roaming free. You see it in the playground, in the home e Love of Power, it stands alone Abusive, insulting, cruel beyond belief It strips people’s lives of hope, like a thief. e Love of Power, seems to know no bounds Pays no heed to reason or cautionary sounds Kills with impunity, renders a life worthless Rules with fear with actions so ruthless. As you look around our world today You see the Love of Power at play It is a chilling and subduing sight For those who dwell in such helpless plight. Let us turn the Love of Power on its head And re ect on the Power of Love instead. rough the Easter story the Power of Love shows Our Creator’s heart of love, for each life glows e Power of Love gives the thirsty a drink e Power of Love makes us stop and think e Power of Love nds the homeless a bed e Power of Love sees the hungry are fed. e Power of Love shows respect for each one With love, diversity can be overcome. If the Power of Love were to be released Our global world would live in peace. NYMPHS AND DRAGONFLIES by David K Wilson BLOOD BROTHERS by Jim Dolbear He gave a pint of blood today, then on the street he went his way. He never thought of black or white, but to save a life that it might. For no matter what a mans creed. their blood still runs red when they bleed. To hate the colour of mans skin, is not a world worth living in. Hate is a failing of mankind, one may lead, others follow blind. But there comes a reckoning day, for we all have a price to pay. e man you hate and give out strife, may give his blood to save your life. So think before you shout and boo, you could have been a di erent hue. Unhurriedly splashing Falling and dashing Over pebbles and stones On its way To the river so near By the white water weir Where nymphs and dragonflies play Diamonds so bright On a pathway of light Reflections of sunbeams Gone astray And on a silvery path Like a signed autograph Glides the moon As he slips on his way The unhurried stream Beneath the moonbeams Twists and turns As it flows on its way Whilst a fox and a deer Under moonlight so clear Stop to drink At the end of the day A kingfisher waiting On a branch hesitating How long? For a meal to pass by Just a ripple away Swims dinner today She swoops Then heads for the sky Unnoticed by most This stream is the host To so many lives Varied and small In this nursery they breed Grow and succeed All spring summer winter And fall This bright water stream Is a reason to dream To stop look and listen To take time Yet many pass on their way Far too busy each day Missing the things They can’t find By the white water weir In moonlight so clear Where nymphs and dragonflies play! Silly Woman by Marlene Parmenter Cornflakes in the bowl Then pours the milk on the dogs’ food. What a silly woman, I know that sounds rude. Driving to the shop Ends up round her friend. “What am I doing here? I’m going round the bend.” Looking in the freezer There she finds her keys. “Who put them in there, Stuck in with the peas?” Out with the dog, “What the hell is that ?” As she pulls on the lead And sees the bloomin’ cat. Entering the kitchen “What am I doing in here?” She has lost the plot, And it can only get worse I fear. Oh, you silly woman! I hope you agree, I’m not being rude Cos silly woman be me ere is too many people Coming to our home. Now restrictions are lowering It’s getting like a wild hippodrome. Too many people chatting, Really too much noise. Too many people trying to get Hold of my outside toys. Too many visits out in our garden In the freezing cold. But whatever the Prime Mister has to say, England has been told. But seeing lots of people Really can be fun. And now it’s getting warmer I enjoy barbecues in the sun. Poets note : Enjoy what makes the best out of lockdown. Mother to Daughter to Mother by Marlene Parmenter You are their playmate and nurse. eir teacher, their friend. And through all of their lives It’s on you they depend. So as Mother to Mother You are second to none. And as Mother to Daughter Our hearts beat as one. You will always be my baby, Of whom I’ve been proud all your life, And never so much more Now you are a mother and a wife. I have watched you grow And always done my best. Taught you all I know, Luckily you have learnt the rest! ere’s been disagreements. Saying things we don’t mean. With the slamming of doors, Until our hearts intervene. We always stand together, rough laughter and tears. is has strengthened our bond Over all of these years. Now it is your turn, And I watch with great joy, When I see such a love Coming from your girl and your boy. Too Many People by Harry Pearce, age 10
