Vehicles assembled in the car park of the club’s meeting place at Netley Marsh. It was a good turnout and parked side by side in a row, as shown in the photograph, they looked impressive. Members chatted for a while and then went into the hall for a tea, co ee and/or a bacon roll. e chairman handed out the route instructions and said “ Drivers start your engines! ” Members were putting into action the club motto devised by their chairman - ‘Life’s too short, put some miles on it’ . e convoy was led out of the car park by two early Series 1 Land Rovers, followed by A30/A35 saloons and commercials, a Triumph Toledo, an Austin A40, a Morris Minor and bringing up the rear was an Austin 7 saloon. Smiling faces all around. Members kept a reasonable distance apart to allow other road users to pass safely. e convoy stopped en route at Carlo’s Ices at West Wellow for ice-cream, drinks and a chat before setting o in a new direction. Members said they had enjoyed the event getting together with their cherished vehicles. e meeting on the 12th May was an auction in aid of the ‘Honeypot’ children’s charity (reg. no. 1011672). Members had donated interesting items and the buyers went away happy with their purchases. e sum of £277.50 was raised for the charity. e Club continues to invite new members that are owners of any make of classic car, not forgetting those enthusiasts who love them but don’t have one of their own to join them -all are welcome! Members enjoy a friendly, social atmosphere at the monthly meetings. Every meeting includes a ra e. ere are lm nights, quizzes, speakers on various topics and club drive days. Some members have other makes of classic vehicles such as Ford, Land Rover, Mercedes, M.G., Morris, Riley and Volkswagen enabling the club to expand the range of vehicle manufacturers to complement their Austin A30/35 models. e next scheduled meeting is on 9th June and will be a ‘Quiz Night’. Meetings take place on the second ursday of each month at Netley Marsh Community Hall, Woodlands Rd, SO40 7GH. Do go along and meet them. Classic Car Drive Day Ashurst & District Ladies Probus are a very friendly group of Ladies and would love to see you. ey meet on the 3rd Thursday of every month at e Happy Cheese, Ashurst at 11am. ey have a speaker every month on a great variety of topics and a erwards most of the members stay for a lunch and general chat. eir next meeting will be on Thursday 16th June for a talk by Lena Gri ths titled ‘Bat Conservation’. ey would love you to go along, it’s a lovely way to spend the morning, with some interesting, informative speakers.
