While we were waiting for our Guides, we peaked inside the original cottage with its well tended kitchen and ower garden. Outwardly a “chocolate box” cottage: inwardly a massive step back in time making us all appreciate our many home comforts of today! e tour followed a sturdy walk of (possibly) around 3 miles through beautiful gardens and meadows. Robins hopped amongst our feet adding to the magic of the place. ere are 40 exquisite fairy houses to nd and the occasional sculpture, including an owl within a tree trunk – which without glasses – could have been real, peeping out! e Chelsea Garden (Gold Medal) was beautiful, full of owers, including the Candelabra Primula Bartley species created locally. e “cottage” is fascinating and has glass leaves suspended from the ceiling – one leaf per person who worked on the Chelsea Garden. e whole exhibit was returned to Furzey to be enjoyed. Our group took the longer walk through the wild meadows. e decision not to mow the grass has revealed the most beautiful, exquisite orchids, which pop up everywhere and hadn’t been seen for years. As we crossed the new ‘Alpaca Bridge’ our group were delighted to be greeted by the resident alpacas, who wandered amongst them (this is apparently unknown)! e a ernoon nished in the tea room with a delicious cream tea (one of the best!) and we wandered through the fascinating gi shop, full of beauties handmade by students and more. Most of us le planning our next visit; it was such a joyful a ernoon. Next meeting is at Copythorne Parish Hall 7th July , 7.30pm: Demonstration: ‘A Touch of Vintage’ by Katie Baxter.
