A Well-deserved Award On Monday 9th January, Hythe & Waterside Rotary President David Saunders presented Rotarian Ralph Ellis with a Paul Harris Fellowship Sapphire award. Paul Harris founded Rotary International in 1905. In his honour, an award to outstanding Rotarians - e Paul Harris Fellowship - was instituted in 1957. A Paul Harris Fellowship, in Great Britain and Ireland is awarded to Rotarians who have given outstanding service to the Club and community over an extended period of time. e Paul Harris Fellowship is not a long-service award, nor does it reward service long past, it recognises consistent service over the duration of membership. Occasionally, the service of a Rotarian is so exceptional that a second Fellowship can be awarded; the so-called Sapphire Award. Hythe & Waterside Rotary President David said “Ralph has served Rotary and the community for forty years. He is recognised as a leader, someone who not only supports Rotary projects but devises and manages them. This leadership has continued throughout his membership. The Hythe and Waterside Rotary is delighted that Ralph Ellis has received a Paul Harris Sapphire Award” Ralph Ellis receiving his award from David Saunders
