Cllr Penman has also received a donation of 102 brand-new wheelchairs from Ultimate Healthcare which he will give out to community groups and other organisations that can make use of them. More recently Cllr Penman has received two containers from the Millbrook Healthcare Group, lled with thousands of pounds worth of medical equipment including children’s wheelchairs, a range of specialised beds as well as bandages, slings and other medical supplies, which he will be donating to Ukraine, working with New Forest for Ukraine and other groups to arrange transportation to Poland and then on to Ukraine. We have been bowled over by the generosity of those donating beautiful clothing items and the volunteers who have helped make the swaps happen. Both Waterside Women and the Councillor Malcolm Wade have helped us by covering hall hire so that more funds can be given to our selected charities. We have raised the following for these charities as well as providing a non-judgemental all inclusive clothing swap service to the local community. Waterside Food Project - £203. Honeypot Children’s Charity - £180. Lahna, Southampton Hospital - £142. Homestart family charity - £310. Preventing waste by not buying more clothes than we need can reduce climate change. e fast fashion industry has a big negative impact on the environment. If we all bought less and shared more, then together, we could change the industry and improve how clothes are made to last. Also, with food, heating and fuel poverty being a very real factor for so many, clothing poverty is a thing too. Coming to our swaps can help a family to get the clothes they need for work, school and rapidly growing children. Clothing is for everyone to enjoy so even if you just want a nice dress for your next holiday, or to reduce your own clothing spend, please do join us. e more we share, the more we care for all. Our next swap is on Sunday 30th April in Hythe Sea Scouts Hall, Shore Road, Hythe, doors opening for all at 1pm. Volunteer with us, or nd out more at: www.facebook.com/WCSwap
