Closing date: 14th April 2023 HERALD RECRUI TMENT A time to indulge, have lots of fun Thinking of all the goodies yet to come Chocolate eggs, filled with smarties perhaps And to help them down a glass of Schnapps. Simnel cakes; parades of Easter bonnets Hot cross buns; and words from Easter sonnets Bunny rabbits prancing and bounding around Fluffy little Easter chicks peck at the ground. Exciting Easter egg hunts without a doubt. But, is this really what Easter is all about? Just like Christmas, the true meaning unseen So few people know what Easter doth mean. Easter’s a time of mixed emotions Of tears; unsealing precious lotions A trial based on false accusation Witness account; misrepresentation. Verdict, Death on a cross, no hope of reprieve For this innocent man, for whom we grieve. He was whipped, spat on, ridiculed for thee Carried his cross, that brought him to his knee Crucified, yet from this cruel cross, said Farther, Forgive them, then accepted death But the amazing fact was, He rose from the grave All that horrendous suffering for us, for to save That was the penalty for our sin and shame God punished His Son in yours and my name. There was no other good enough, He the only one He has paved the way, given hope for life to come. Resurrection joy, let us revel in His love Until we meet Him face to face in His home above. EASTER by Dorothy Lockyer Sweet Sensations by David K Wilson Sweet sensations fill the shelves And quickly fill up trolleys Easter eggs and chocolate chicks And tasty chocolate dollies Egg hunts in the undergrowth Games that children play Chocolate treats for all to eat How sweet is Easter day For all good things we pay a price Teeth the ultimate sacrifice Too many eggs and chocolate treats Indulgence turns into a feast Then sitting in the dentists chair Hidden horrors found right there Chocolate-coated tooth decay Filling young mouths every day Or perhaps just think of Easter And that lonely desolate hill Remembering why we celebrate The cross where blood was spilled Bad things lead to good things It has always been this way Sweet sensations fill the shelves To remind us of that day Easter treats we love to eat But beware of tooth decay! Easter time is here again to show God’s love to us on earth. We celebrate a death that will bring us all a new birth. If we believe that God’s own son died for us on the cross We have a new life as we think of God’s loss. Deep in our hearts we feel the pain Jesus had to bear We know he really did care. So Easter time is a special time to think of heaven above, To give thanks for God’s special love. Easter Reflections by Wendy Jackson
