Over 1500 people went along to enjoy the family fun and over 100 volunteers kindly gave their time to man the stalls. e Pimm’s was owing, the car park was full within 10 minutes of opening and a grand day was had by all. “The event is such a popular local event that really brings the community down to the hospice. It was great to see so many people here and the gardens so full of people enjoying themselves and supporting the hospice” says Andrew Ryde, Chief Executive of Oakhaven Hospice. With more stalls and attractions than ever before, including Miller’s Ark petting zoo, the grand raffle, silent auction, tombola’s, face painting, glitter tattoos, pop up clothes shop, human fruit machine, donut wall, splat the rat, beautiful plants and several in atables, this was their biggest family fun day yet. Oakhaven are delighted to announce they raised over £16,000; their highest amount on record! SAVE THE CHILDREN SHOP TO CELEBRATE 32ND BIRTHDAY e Save the Children Shop in Hythe first opened its doors to the public 32 years ago in August 1991, with the o cial opening taking place 2 years later, when Her Royal Highness Princess Anne came to Hythe to o cially open the shop in January 1993. Over the last 32 years the charity shop on e Marsh in Hythe has raised in excess of £1.5 million to help children all over the world. One of the volunteers was at the o cial opening in 1993 and continues to help in the shop today! Go along to the Save the Children Shop on Saturday 5th August, 9.30am to 4pm to join in the celebrations for the shops 32nd Birthday and the 30th Anniversary of the o cial opening. The shop is bright with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, the background music is appreciated by their many regular customers and there will o en be singing and sometimes a little dancing, bringing a smile to peoples faces. Your donations of bric-abrac, children’s wear and toys, books, household items as well as ladies and gents wear are willingly accepted. Electrical items are also accepted as they are lucky enough to have a quali ed PAT tester on site, all electrical items are tested and only put on sale if they pass the test and meet all the Health and Safety criteria. Their friendly team would love to have more volunteers (over 18s), hours and days to suit. eir goal is to be able to open the shop for more hours each week.
